We're pretty excited about https://pixelfed.art, and building a trusted community of art and artists on Pixelfed.

That being said, we have to shout out the OG art community on the fediverse, https://mastodon.art. They have built a rich and diverse community of artists and use their following to promote them. It's amazing.

We don't see them as competition, quite the opposite, they are family and we encourage all to find the platform that best fits

Staying on twitter because you need the income is an extremely poor long term plan because it will only continue worsening over time

The longer you wait to build a community elsewhere the harder it'll be when you finally have to because twitter can no longer sustain you

1. Yes because I took my own advice and aggressively invested in other places immediately when the writing for twitter was on the wall

2. I had two and a half times that amount of followers on twitter, AND I'm poor enough that we couldn't run heat all winter, AND I was still on the tail end of a nervous breakdown when I moved here. It was not "easy", but it was necessary, so I did it, because that's how it is on this bitch of an earth

Oh gosh the fediverse is amazing, I was so hesitant to launch https://pixelfed.art because I didn't want to upset https://mastodon.art, I really love the community they built.

But I realized how different Mastodon and Pixelfed are in terms of UI/UX, and how to approach this in a respectful way that encourages users to consider mastodon.art instead (if they want text-only posts, or other masto features)

It's not competition, it's community.

This is what makes the fediverse special ❤️

I'd like to see fewer products try to do everything and more products just focus on delivering the best of what they promise and expanding based on users rather than stockholders.

More apps and services should encrypt data end to end.

So the actual cost of switching is ... pretty low
