Oh shit now the "hey transpeople are evil cause one just shot some kids" morons are creeping in on my timeline... its almost like being a member of one of the most abused, ridiculed, attacked, and tortured groups in existance (trans people) might lead to a very very small portion of them snapping and becoming violent... the level of stupdity of these people to think it infers trans people are just bad people, instead of recognizing it might be a symptom of extreme abuse, is mind boggling.

@sciencebase Put a good quiff in your hair? Oh, that would be a tall order, wouldn't it.

@RedEx1 If it was in Diss, you probably don't want to know what stomach-churning use it once (?) had. I thought Lincs was weird till I went there.

@sciencebase Saw this Chevy Imperial 1961 cruising and playing Jazz Duck on channel WZX-C5 through its Radiomobile valve set.

"Too often we think of 'Nature' as happening somewhere else, more exotic, more wild. But what Wild Isles has shown us is that here in the UK nature is just as amazing, just as precious, and just as under threat as the rest of the world."

In light of the People's Plan For Nature published today, Butterfly Conservation CEO Julie Williams looks at why it is so important that we come together to take the action needed to protect and renew nature 👉 butrfli.es/3TGdIZw

@sciencebase Or my pipe reflecting. This baccy is the one whose 'room note' is described as "tolerable" by the vendor. A pipe of it lasts a good hour too. Banned anywhere except the study.

@sciencebase Probably just a reflection - all I got was a flash but it was fiery coloured to me. Maybe it was someone with a tab on ;-)

@sciencebase Can you see orange on an orange underwing in flight? I might have just seen one in the street light, bit far off though. Or is this Irish Flake a bit strong do you think?

@sciencebase@mastodon.socialm It is easy to forget that sometimes>

@sciencebase I suppose I don't really know how any image is stored when I think about it. Perhaps just as well.

@sciencebase I see that now but my lack of understanding about fingerprints goes back years. Same for retinas. I don't know how a device stores a picture such that you can write code to compare two of them. I assume that because letters present the same problem was the reason for ASCII codes.

@sciencebase Surely it must store it somehow though to be able to compare it, like it would with a PIN. It's not as though a random fingerprint has got an ASCII code so what does it store? I'm struggling with my ignorance even to ask the question! It's the same mystery as how google lens works to me.

@sciencebase I supposed that a fingerprint system, as used by hardware, would need a stored reference to compare yours with when you put your finger on the little pad. So, in other words, how does your phone know it's you?

@sciencebase How are they matched? Is it a picture or something clever like Holly Aird would use?
