@sciencebase Around here the Blackcaps always seem to be imitating another sort of bird but it's not very convincing!
If you care about horse welfare, don't watch the #GrandNational. Don't bet on it. Don't go to Aintree.

@sciencebase "Be there or be square".
@sciencebase I think I see now I've looked at some pictures but most I've seen called that seemed to have round spots. Maybe it's hard to see well at night at a Moth & Bat night like I was at.
Heads up! A new lawsuit objects to DiabloCanyonNuclearPlant remaining open. https://bit.ly/43lkGY6
Mentioned contract to replace Diablo w/ "clean & renewable #energy" wld include coal-fired power frm Wyoming!
A 2018 SanDiegoTribune article explains how bad 'grid regionalization' will be for CA. Emissions will go up! https://bit.ly/3zUbHQc
The fossil fuel industry is insidiously behind opposition to #nuclearenergy.
Beware the deceit often behind the words 'clean, renewable'.

@freemo I think 'stellae' is better than 'astra' here. #fauxsmartarse
Is this the cutest fungus ever!? 😲🍄💙
This mini mushroom was found in Taiwan and is believed to be Mycena subcyanocephala, often called the blue-headed bonnet. The species is characterized by its teeny tiny height of around 1-3 cm, and its blue to blue-gray cap (typically only 0.5–1.5 cm in diameter).
M. subcyanocephala thrives in temperate climates and usually colonizes decaying wood or leaf litter.

@sciencebase What's the story behind the name of 'squares' when they aren't?
@sciencebase She is ridiculously cute.
@sciencebase There must be be which has tusks, surely.
@sciencebase Our cat was scared by a patterned towel when it was hung out to dry. We never saw why but she did.
@sciencebase Grans seeing pictures in the fire.
@sciencebase I looked up pareidolia but is it different from camouflage?
@sciencebase My tussocks are not tussock grasses, which is disappointing. I think they are where something has relieved itself. Probably not a moth, though.
@sciencebase The tussocks in my garden are all green and make it hard to walk on the grass without spilling my pint. Is its name connected with them?
@sciencebase I find these I think but they are usually a lot paler, almost ash grey. Or is it something else do you think?
@sciencebase You mean turn my camera off 'auto' and tell it what to do. A daunting prospect. Hours of fun there, but I have got a tripod.
@sciencebase They like the one with a fungus associated with it but it's an odd looking orchid. I can't remember its name and I don't much like it but it is rare. I'll let the Env Manager know about the BOs. Be a good story for the local paper if they turn out to be of interest.
@sciencebase You know this scene: dark outside, moth on the inside of window. How do you take its photo? No flash - it doesn't show up, or flash and you get, er, a flash.
@sciencebase I will do. There are botanists from Leeds come quite often to look at ones with a symbiotic affair with a fungus. The BOs like it near the ore beds and the whole site is on chalk.
