@sciencebase "That's not an antenna.... *that's* an antenna". I bet he detects butane!

@freemo It doesn't surprise me as a gut feel but I don't really know why it may be so.

@freemo It is superb at selecting folk for pension 'services', second home 'services' and so on. A thick slice of someone's retirement fund will do very nicely, thank you. And no, you can't turn them off.

‘A sea of misinformation’: U.S. Government to address industry greenwashing complaints.

As consumers turn to renewable and recyclable products, protests over industry’s use of misleading terms have proliferated.

@sciencebase It was one used by engineers to look for things that we getting warmer than they should. You could tell whether someone had a bald head under their helmet so I thought it might show something interesting but I think you're right. It didn't even show that a moth was there at all.

@sciencebase We had some thermal cameras on the steel works. I did once look at some moths because it would show humans surprisingly well, but it didn't really show much. Not the intended use at the scale and temps.

@sciencebase Does the 'fur' have a role in keeping them warm or does it just look like it by extension from mammals? Butterflies seem to be less fury to me.

@sciencebase Would have been a good chance to get really annoyed on the basis that others all had demodex mites on theirs and claim they were let off cos they were tory voters. Your phiz on the front of the tabloids tomorrow.

@sciencebase But will it be acceptable at the polling station if they are not aware that you usually have one on your conk?

@freemo I have a charming photo of my granddad and his sister. He's got on a frock, she wears dungarees. They are both in clogs though.

@sciencebase It was a Red Chestnut wot be abroad on the night, though. It kno better than 'ee.

Essex Uni has PhD scholarships aimed at increasing inclusivity in research. The University says “We would particularly welcome applications from the applicants with any of the protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010 or those who may find themselves in the position of underrepresentation and vulnerability, e.g. refugees, with relevant permissions to study in the UK.”
Link to info here - this is a Uni-wide scheme - but that means law and human rights included

Anyone fancy doing a PhD on the uses of wild bee pollination as a nature-based solution in fjordside horticultural production? If you like the idea of having fieldsites that look like the one pictured below then check this out: nina-english.attract.reachmee. @jobsecoevo

A daily reminder:

Climate Change is a CO2 problem. We will not solve it without drastically cutting fossil fuel emissions.

@sciencebase I'm seeing more of them that have expired seemingly whilst just walking across the grass. They don't look dead at first. I assume it is poisoned slugs, considering the pellets laid like snow on some gardens around here.
