initial thoughts on Star Trek Discovery: S2 E1
@guinan I haven't seen it, yet. I'm very excited to start, though.
It's Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. day in the States, so that usually means white people taking the man's legacy out of context in an effort to push oppressed people to forget the centuries of oppression and avoid accountability for their continued complicity.
Before you start posting a bunch of quotes to impress your friends, meditate on the meaning of his words and the action they inspire to this day.
And reflect if any part of your life honors what he stood for beyond copy and pasting.
I feel like it's important to remember that things are better, but they're not where they need to be this #MLK Jr day.
Doctor King was a famous proponent of anti-bigotry in all forms. He was a powerful supporter of my people, the Jewish People. Likewise, many Jews at the time noticed the very real parallels between our history and those of black Americans.
I want to remind my often insulated American Jewish Friends that you are Jewish first to everyone who isn't Jewish. Black Americans know what that is like- being Black first before anything else.
We remain natural allies and should be supporting each other far more than we are. Don't forget the Ghettos. Don't forget the way the media portrays those who are aren't part of their mainstream.
Don't forget that we are brothers, because we know what can happen when a people are treated as second class. To the White People/WASPY Majority we are exactly the same.
Peace and Love to all my brothers and sisters who struggle to be recognized as the fantastic human beings they are. Let's keep moving forward together.
Moderation complete.

@SquidPresident@cryptids.online @EdgarAllanFoe That is fantastic.
@isagalaev And I made clear in uncertain terms that I did not appreciate his unwarranted and very unwelcome response and yet he persists under the guise he's 'protecting me from embarrassing'.
This dude is a straight up piece of shit. Behavior like this is why the FOSS community is a dumpster fire.
@Surasanji Nah, you pretty much have it. It's a cultural reference.
@Ophillous @SquidPresident@cryptids.online Squid will always be my president.
LOL yo, like the sheer arrogance of these white guys who _never_ speak with me on a consistent base thinking the really know enough about me to be while condescending and judgemental is only second in absurdity to the idea that they think said comment is of actual value to me.
These people are outside of their minds.
Now I perfectly understand why doing this would upset some people and I'm fine with that.
But a big reason why the community continues to be garbage is because these mother fuckers are allowed to do what they want in private while putting on an agreeable and friendly public persona.
And I'm not going to continue that. I'm not going to be punching bad for some cowardly piece of shit because he doesn't have the guts to say it in pubic.
Because this shit needs to cease.
Now.
Seems to me like a lot of people want to say you're racist against white people, but they're just not coming out and saying it for some reason.
Lemme ask for them- You racist against white people?
Because, I mean, that seems to be what they want to know. There doesn't need to be cowardice in asking that question. No need to pussy-foot around.
You don't even need to answer. I pointed out earlier that people need to read between the lines and see what is being said and not how it is being said. You got that passion about something that is legitimately important and needs attention. Maybe it doesn't always come out in a way that doesn't feel aggressive or angry.
I don't think you hate white people. I think you use the term for a catch-all of the majority WASP-y culture that dominates the USA. Please though, correct me if I'm wrong. I've got no special pride when it comes to being wrong and learning something or having something explained to me.
@Are0h Looks like it's got the basics down:
1) Suggesting that you're racist against white people. (Turning it around on you.)
2) Surely this is fake (IE: Suggesting that you wouldn't say the things you say unless it gave you attention)
3) If it isn't fake, then you are clearly living in a bad situation that does not fit the "norms"
@Gargron The fact is Eugen would crumble if he had to endure the sick, twisted and dehumanizing constant abuse and harassment that Black and Brown folks go through. That gay people go through. That trans people go through. Hell, that women go through everyday.
This is not to say what he goes through doesn't matter, because it does. I do feel he is treated unfairly in some cases.
But the idea that he receives the worst of it is utter bullshit. If anything, he gets off very, very light.
I know this comment is going to set the fediverse on fire, but it needs to be said.
I will give @Gargron all the credit in the world for building Masto. At its core, it's a pretty good package, but as with most things its brilliance is in its ability to bring people together outside of a particular corporate influence. This is a great, great thing.
But his project also has plenty of funding and loads of contributors pushing it forward.
The idea he takes more bullshit than anyone is absurd.
Account has been Depreciated. Thanks for all the fun, QOTO!
