June 1940 Adolf Eichmann proposed relocating 4 million Jews to the island of Madagascar. The plan was shelved in 1942 in favour of the Final Solution.
This is a historical fact. You may draw what inferences you wish.

This is me, performing one of my fire circles, drawing with molten glass on paper.
I am passionate about fire and working with hot glass, blacksmithing, various outdoor firing techniques for ceramics and such. This specific work was made within and for my MA thesis.
I am also interested in the circle, what that makes a society stay strong as the form of a stable circle - but also: how do we open up to include and welcome newly arrived?
If you’re at the right place at the right time, with the right equipment, this is possible.
Last night, with guidance from https://transit-finder.com/, I positioned myself along the narrow line where the International #SpaceStation would pass between me and the nearly full moon.
I used a Fujifilm X-T4 shooting 4K video through a Celestron 8” SCT to capture the pass. Then, back at the computer this morning, put together these views with PIPP, Registax, and GIMP.
Quite pleased. My best yet.
@arclight @bitsavers I'd love to see a book about how MBA ideology took HP from a world-leading engineering firm to little more than a overpriced printer-ink scam.
It has been two years since the January 6 Capitol attack, and Congress has yet to address a major weakness it exposed: the Insurrection Act. https://www.brennancenter.org/our-work/analysis-opinion/how-fix-insurrection-act
TIL there's a technical name for why ideas happen in the shower: the "default mode network" is a pattern of brain activity, measurable using fMRI, that happens when we're unfocussed. When the brain goes into idle mode (reduced activity), this part of the brain actually becomes *more* active. What does the default mode network do? Research is ongoing, but part of it definitely seems to be making connections, which is associated with curiosity and creativity.
XBB.1.5 is as different from SARS-CoV-2 as SARS-CoV-2 is from SARS1 (!)
--RT
HOW DIFFERENT IS XBB.1.5 AND HOW WORRYING IS IT?
Very. This graphic from the linked paper shows it is as different from the Wuhan variant (now known as WT = Wild Type) of SARS-COV-2 as WT is from SARS-COV (the virus which caused SARS1 in 2003).

A plea, especially to people located in the USA where it's less common.
When you add your location e.g. on your profile, would you mind including the country you live in (if it's not sensitive info)?
Geographic and cultural context is sometimes important, and can help us make sense of a post.
I don't normally ask for a boost, but if you know Mastodon people in the US, I'd be grateful if you'd spread this request.

Time for a few pics of #beaver kits. Beavers have one litter per year, in the spring. A typical litter is two to five kits. They stay in the lodge for about a month, and are weaned from mother’s milk after two or three weeks. And they are really, really cute. Photos courtesy of Mike Digout.
Took a mate of mine through the process of joining the #Fediverse and #Mastodon the other day, and the onboarding experience is in my opinion the main issue standing in the way at this stage. I helped him do it, and once he's here I know he'll see its value but would love some UX designers and communications folk to tackle this one and create a better onboarding experience option for people.
I'm very happy with Vivaldi, my main browser for the last 7 years, but ...
... in the new browser Arc there's a truly fascinating feature:
"Easels"
It lets you
a) take screenshots of parts of other web pages
b) paste them all together on one page, so you can glance at them. But ...
c) ... they're *live*. They update. You can interact with them
It's wild
My essay on it, if you're a Medium subscriber: https://clivethompson.medium.com/the-most-powerful-and-unusual-feature-in-the-new-arc-browser-2552bb7848ce

Two things I posted on a conspiracy theory forum in 1998-2003 that I’ve heard repeated since:
“when Stanley Kubrick faked the moon landings he was such a perfectionist he went to the moon to do it.”
And:
“JFKs head just did that. Literally tens of people have spontaneous head explosions every year.”
The first of these sent me on a journey that I explain in my new Stand-up show
Niagara Falls, 1883, one of two dozen old photos that we have collected for this afternoon's edition of our newsletter, "This Week's Best Old Photos." We just do photos, and people who enjoy looking at old pictures really like it. You might, too!
