On 9th May 1386 the Treaty of Windsor was signed between Portugal and England, uniting the two countries in a perpetual alliance.

It remains the oldest remaining alliance in the world.

In WW2 it would TWICE play a quiet but critical part in the allies' victory over the Axis, to the watching disbelief of Roosevelt and the Americans.

Planet Earth has two fundamental rules:

1. Energy flows through (in from sunlight and then radiated away into space some time later - Earth is just a temporary stop-off)
2. Stuff/atoms/matter goes round and round

Every decision we make about a sustainable future should bear those in mind. We can’t change these rules, so we have to choose what we do to work within this system, like the rest of nature does. And this illuminates a lot of issues (see following posts). #climate #Earth #Energy

I'm looking forward to the moon landing attempt tomorrow of the ispace HAKUTO-R craft carrying a Tomy selfie camerabot and a 4-wheeled rover. There are great photos already from the lander, presently in lunar orbit at 100km up. This Earthrise was taken this afternoon when the moon was causing an eclipse in Australia; if you look closely you can see the dark eclipse shadow on the Earth's image. :-D

For one thing, the origins of the 'we only use 10% of our brain' notion are unclear. But analysis suggests it came about *at least* a century ago. Believe it or not, our understanding of the brain has improved by orders of magnitude since then
