This is me moving to London without ever having been to London before.

Time for an #introduction. I'm an Associate Professor (Senior Lecturer) at the University of York. I mostly study memory and forgetting but also have an interest in spatial navigation. I use experimental psychology, brain imaging, and computational modelling. Also a fan of banging on about research culture and DEI issues, particularly in relation to open science.

Hoping to reconnect with some of the fellow bird migrants as well as new people with similar interests.

To supplement my last toot of 800,000 years of CO2 data, here's a graph of the past 2000 years for CO2, methane, and nitrous oxide (all greenhouse gases, measured in parts per million) again showing the effect of human activities driving up the concentrations. These are the gases driving #climate change.

At the rate the current twitter exodus is going I will hit 30,000 followers by the end of the week... Gonna have to celebrate :)

Its a QOTO feature and yes you can access it from our web client.

It lets you follow a user without them knowing you are following them and without them needing to approve of you as a follower if it is locked down.

The down side is you will only see their public posts and any follower-only posts you cant see unnless you follow.

Early Warnings for All Action Plan unveiled at COP27

"The estimated new targeted investments of US$ 3.1 Billion over the five years would be used to advance the four key Multi-Hazard Early Warning System (MHEWS) pillars:

Disaster risk knowledge (US$374 million) - systematically collect data and undertake risk assessments on hazards and vulnerabilities
Observations and Forecasting (US$1.18 billion) - develop hazard monitoring and early warning services
Preparedness and response ($1 billion) - build national and community response capabilities
Dissemination and communication (US$ 550 million) - communicate risk information so it reaches all those who need it, and is understandable and usable

The plan identifies key areas for advancing universal disaster risk knowledge, and outlines the priority actions required to achieve this, building on the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction."
