Remember GRB 221009A? The gamma ray burst that was bright enough to rattle Earth's atmosphere? Turns out, it's indeed a "once in a many thousand years"-event.

Wanna know why the strange name? There is logic to it! "GRB" means "gamma ray burst", to distinguish it from other transient phenomena observed in the sky on the same day. It happened on on the 9th October 2022 - that's the 221009. And it was the first GRB on that day, that's the "A" there.
