“The irony is that thanks to the turmoil at Twitter, Mastodon is thriving .. Strangely enough, Musk may have created a better social media platform by transforming Mastodon into a more popular and attractive place to be.” barrons.com/articles/guide-to-

In 2024, Paris will ban non-essential vehicle thru-traffic from its city center. The plan is expected to cut around half of daily car journeys thru the core. Residents, public transit, emergency vehicles, & people with disabilities will find it EASIER to move. Via @citylab

The lies are well-established but the heart of the George Santos story is MONEY.

How did Santos go from having essentially no money in 2020 to being a millionaire in 2022.

His “explanation” is not very credible.

@meoutloud @mguhlin @mattT @edutooter @edutooters thank you for sharing this and the important reminder that teaching and education on the most fundamental level need to be humanizing of teachers and students.

@ZingerLearns @mguhlin @mattT @edutooter @edutooters

My work on building a trauma responsive practice offers an approach to classroom teaching and, more broadly, learning itself that can be transformative for any educator. Giving teachers a way to think about their work that recognizes them as full, embodied humans connects them w students differently, potentially in more joyful ways.

This holiday season Twitter fires 4K workers, Amazon fires 10K workers, & Facebook fires 11K workers—all while US Billionaire pandemic wealth increased an absurd $1.7T.😳

A reminder that billionaires don’t create jobs—they exploit workers. Tax billionaires. Unionize workers.

What happens when cops are replaced with restorative justice? Turns out a whole lot!

@DavidKnuffke is it the goals themselves? or the nature in which we traditionally set goals that are prescriptive and narrowly measured? Or something else?
I have been increasingly setting goals to experience, or do rather than "achieve."

I find myself thinking a lot about #goals these days, and my accompanying, almost-reflexive, skepticism of the utility of any mandatory #goalSetting regimen or process. Why do I find it so distasteful?

@teachpaperless thanks for sharing this piece.
A few things that immediately come to mind, as I expect to see lots more on the "rampant cheating" narrative coming from ChatGPT.

1) This story comes from the NY Post, what is their agenda and perspective?
2) I was wondering how long it would take to get stories on using other programs (which cost lots of $$$s) like Turnitin.com to police students (these softwares have long been problematized).
3) It's interesting that only 1 student appeared to be cheating, and they were easily caught by the instructor.
4) It was not surprising that the task students were asked to complete seems pretty rote and rudimentary (a regurgitation of an approach or facts) and how this task was not problematized in the article. There did not appear to be an analysis of providing students with a more complex or personal task that would have made AI less useful or interesting to use.

👋🏻 High school teacher who grew up housing- and food-insecure here. @brycecovert is SPOT-on. Universal free breakfast and lunch was a game-changer for my students, and its removal has meant a LOT more of my most vulnerable young folks are going hungry.

FOR THE LAST FERSTINKIN' TIME! SAYING THAT YOU HAVE PRIVILEGE DOES NOT MEAN YOU SHOULD FEEL GUILTY, IT MEANS YOU SHOULD ACKNOWLEDGE THAT SOCIETY IS UNJUST IN WAYS THAT FAVOR YOU AND THAT YOU HAVE AN OBLIGATION TO FIGHT FOR IT TO BE JUST FOR EVERYBODY

GROW UP AND GET TO WORK

@edutooter @mguhlin @edutooters @ZingerLearns but it’s so much easier to view teaching as a mechanical process that can be adjusted for efficiencies and impact based on “objective data”. This also allows me to subscribe to a view of teaching that continues the seemingly-inexorable deprofessionalization that has dominated US educational contexts for the past 40 years.
