2 'You Are On Native Land' hats I got from Native owned UrbanNativeEra.com

These are great starters for conversation about #LandBack and other Native issues.

@mguhlin many of these institutions also profess DEI, JEDI, anti-racism, cultural responsiveness, and restorative practices.
I think the question we should open with when these white men continually cause harm is

How are you going to repair the harm you caused?

No, an apology is not good enough
No, you don't get to decide how to repair the harm without hearing from those harmed.
No, you don't get to claim it's repaired until those harmed are healed.

Refusing to Forgive Institutional #Racism Is Not Cancel Culture-When you ridicule a race of people you dehumanize and devalue their worth as individuals.

Even though more women are joining the Ukrainian military, their participation is not valued like men's. Women’s ability to voluntarily serve on front lines is limited due to restrictions that place them in gendered domestic & support roles.

Working on these course materials took way longer than expected (shocker!).

Had to postpone my time off, but BY JOVE I'm done, and ready to take a week off for the first time in forever!

@edutooters @lewriley these are great, and I am going to "borrow" a couple to add to my end of week survey. I especially like the question about students feeling their voice was included in the class. One question I don't think I saw that I have on my survey relates to learning specifically... Something like
1) what is one thing you learned this week? What helped you learn that?

My standard set of prompts for weekly/semi-weekly reflections have been something like:
- What went well? What the best part of the week?
- What did not go well?
- Did you feel included in class activities and discussion?
- How would you evaluate your own engagement with the course? How can you improve?
- What did you find challenging? What are you doing to address challenges?
- How can the instructor improve your experience?

It's time again when thoughts turn frantically to course design and syllabus writing ... I'm working on how I might better support my students in developing their metacognitive skills in writing regular learning reflections. If learning reflections are part of your practice, do you have prompts/thoughts to share?

New to Mastodon, and hoping to network with other physics teachers across the globe. Here is my most recent blogpost on a topic

When the Republican extremists (redundant?) have full control over the House agenda, once they actually permit a speaker to be named, one of their top priorities is to cause the United States to default on its debt. That will trigger a global economic catastrophe.

It will be essential if and when they do this, for Big Journalism to make totally clear -- with no quoting "both sides" bullshit -- what has happened.

What worries me is that I'm not sure journalists will rise to the occasion.

One of the things most precarious for contingent/adjunct teachers is our time. For years, I taught up to 9 classes at 4 institutions. My alternative pedagogies were developed as much from a place of care for students as they were developed from a place of care for me.

At the start, reimagining our approaches takes time and emotional labor. But, to be direct, grading less is less work. There is other work we can do in place of grading, but we can also remove grades and replace them with trust. Trust scales.
