New to Mastodon, and hoping to network with other physics teachers across the globe. Here is my most recent blogpost on a topic

When the Republican extremists (redundant?) have full control over the House agenda, once they actually permit a speaker to be named, one of their top priorities is to cause the United States to default on its debt. That will trigger a global economic catastrophe.

It will be essential if and when they do this, for Big Journalism to make totally clear -- with no quoting "both sides" bullshit -- what has happened.

What worries me is that I'm not sure journalists will rise to the occasion.

One of the things most precarious for contingent/adjunct teachers is our time. For years, I taught up to 9 classes at 4 institutions. My alternative pedagogies were developed as much from a place of care for students as they were developed from a place of care for me.

At the start, reimagining our approaches takes time and emotional labor. But, to be direct, grading less is less work. There is other work we can do in place of grading, but we can also remove grades and replace them with trust. Trust scales.

Grading less is about stopping practices that do harm. It isn’t necessarily about adding new practices.

The harder part of ungrading is the way it asks us to question the assumptions we make about school, learning, motivation, etc. The harder part of grading less is the way it pushes against conventions that feel (but usually aren’t) immovable.

There was an attempted coup in the US two years ago, people died, and we still have had no accountability for the events of that day.........🫠🫠🫠🥴🥴🥴

Researching mines in northern Spain I came across this curious object. It's a canary cage designed to keep the canary alive in the event of a gas leak. If a miner saw the canary laying at the bottom of the cage it was time to abandon everything and leave the mine, but not without first closing the latched glass door and opening the valve of the oxygen bottle to save the bird. A miner would do that on their way out and take the bird with them. It's a signifier of the miner's legendary sense of solidarity, no lives lost to the mine on a miners watch. A solidarity that was also crucial in the fight for workers rights, creating safer and more humane working conditions, achievements of unionization and solidarity that some of us still enjoy today.

@msnbc @CNNNetwork As the House adjourns after day 3 of the #speakerofthehouse sh*tshow, please spare the American people a pointless interview with any of these 20+ members of the #gop because you are only incentivizing them. Instead, you should ask Don Bacon (R-NE) and the #gop ”moderates” why they are letting their 20+ colleagues hold the chamber hostage and why they haven’t approached the #Democrats about a deal. Ask them why they won’t create their own leverage.

Banning books is always an early step on the path to fascism.

If you are a member of the far right, you can simply tag @elonmusk@twitter.com with any complaint & he will look into it right away.

If you ascribe to any other political ideology, you are on your own.

This Twitter in 2023.

Andy Ngo and Elon Musk apparently confirm that Musk personally suspended my Twitter account at Ngo's request, following Ngo's multiple failed attempts to silence my reporting on Ngo's ties to violent right-wing terrorist groups.

I call on Musk to release all his communications with Andy Ngo. Let's bring some transparency to Twitter. twitter.com/MrAndyNgo/status/1

Andy Ngo has been trying desperately to silence my reporting on his record of lies and thuggish legal threats against his critics.

In Sept 2021, Andy Ngo's lawyers threatened me with legal action for exposing his lies. @Popehat replied to their frivolous and baseless legal threats on my behalf in the now famous "oily poutine" letter. techdirt.com/2021/10/01/ken-po

@ZingerLearns well, on your last point, the AI is very responsive to it, more input the better the output, just freeform it in a stream of consciousness . But overall what you're seeing is more the limit to the number of tokens (ie $) spent on each output. So for example i use other tools that produce better results. I'm really honored you took the time to thoughtfully consider and work through the prompts provided, you seem to have your finger on the pulse of these mores , so hopefully you'll keep being a bellweather or even a lighthouse to the whole community of educators 🚀
