Capitalism 101

Someone trying to tempt me back to Twitter with this screenshot, saying “come on, won’t it be fun to respond to this?” Their idea of fun may differ from mine.

Lots of people have made fun of my mental illness and openness about it, most often on Twitter. But I’m okay. So far I haven’t looked at one of them and said “wow they seem really happy and successful, I wish I had their life.”

I'm curious what the *professional* and ethical arguments in favor of invitation-only conferences. It seems to me the arguments against such a practice are obvious, and yet these things are still quite common.
The only defense of them I've heard is basically 'I want an excuse to hang out with my friends in my subdiscipline', but that does not seem like sufficient grounds to keep these things going.

- I'm not casting judgment on people who go to these things, I have even done so myself. But I've always felt icky about them.

Men, in case you were wondering, yes. Every single woman you know has been spoken down to, patronized, objectified, infantilized, and belittled with exactly the same "Kenergy" you seem to find so objectionable in the movie and it's REALLY FUNNY to see how you guys can't handle that AT ALL.

Kids can detect what you really think of them. What is says about them that their school has a "discipline center" not a library. What that says about what the adults in their life expect from them. What the education system has to offer for them.

They see it all. Adapt to meet your expectations.

Build a discipline center have discipline problems. Dutifully the children will not want it to go to waste.

And they will remember "libraries aren't for kids like us." for the rest of their lives.

Hey! What's the big deal that there's only 2 companies in the world where we get all our information from?

Because the vast majority of prisoners in the U.S. aren't allowed access to the web. This means they can't turn to online resources like Wikipedia to answer their questions about the world.
