Here is a must-read post from children's author Maggie Tokuda-Hall on how Scholastic offered to publish her book — all she had to do was remove all mention of racism.

Sure, they're banning books in Tennessee and Texas. But it's not just the books that get published and then banned from the library. It's all the books that don't get published in the first place.

Those banning books know publishers like Scholastic pull this cowardly bullshit. It's their game plan.

@ProPublica broke the story of Justice Thomas' blatant corruption. In a follow-up after Thomas claimed he'd done nothing wrong, the news org quoted his BS and then, citing people who know what they're talking about, refuted the BS.

Contrast this with the Washington Post's coverage: A story uncritically amplifying the BS, and a less-prominent sidebar labeled a "fact check".

ProPublica did it right. The Post did it wrong.

In 2004, the LA Times reported on gifts Thomas disclosed he had received from Crow. I can’t accept pens from drug companies because it might influence my prescribing, but a supreme court justice can accept millions in vacations and luxuries from a political influencer and we’re expected to believe it had no effect on his decision making?

The variances between instructor approaches and expectations throughout PhD coursework is giving me whiplash.
