Excited to be here! I am a #seismologist at Caltech and mainly discuss #earthquakes , with a particular emphasis on California
Will try to get our Caltech quake bot up and running here ASAP #earthquakes
Intro post: I'm a professor of #Biology at the #UniversityOfWashington. My training is in #EvolutionaryBiology, #BehavioralEcology, #PopulationGenetics, and #Epidemiology. I did lots of work in #Bibliometrics and #NetworkTheory. I teach #DataLiteracy. These days I spend a lot of time thinking about the spread of #Misinformation, the #ScienceOfScience, and #PhilosophyOfScience. I do a lot of #BirdPhotography and love #ravens, #crows, and all #corvids.
For your trouble, here's a perfect crow.
Just as a starter for the sort of stuff I write, here's my latest post on how water turning into ice on icy moons like Europa causes #eruptions https://www.discovermagazine.com/planet-earth/turning-water-to-ice-can-trigger-eruptions-in-the-outer-solar-system
Hello everyone! Let me reintroduce myself now that I realize the importance of hashtags here… I am Jascha Polet, #seismologist and #professor of #geophysics at Cal Poly Pomona in #California (hence the CPPGeophysics name on that other app). My focus here will be on #earthquakes, #volcanoes, geophysics, #geoscience, #science #education, indoor and outdoor animals, photography and whatever else might come to my mind. #introduction #reintroduction
@agterrane There was a learning curve for me but I definitely like it after a week. Searching for #fediTips is a good way to find how tos in terms of the technical side and social aspects.
I hope it grows on you like it did on me!
So happy @popehat is on mastodon.
KEEP IN MIND! #Mastodon doesn't work like #Twitter!
Have you just made the #Twexit or the #TwitterMigration?
Favorites ⭐ - they're not "likes". They don't "elevate" posts, they just the poster know you liked their post.
Boosts 🔁 - these push someone's post into your friends feeds (and help discovery).
So if you ⭐ my posts, that's great (and I love you too)!
But if you 🔁 posts, then more people see them!
OH! - #Hashtags are how you search!
I'm grateful for all the helpful tips and advice being shared on here. I hope the #TwitterMigration keeps this place as lovely as it seems to be, and that this isn't stressful for those who were already here ❤️ Thank you.
Mastodon, meet Harry. One of my two fur friends who make life better every day.
By way of a proper introduction, I am Dr. Erik Klemetti (Gonzalez). I teach at a small liberal arts college in the middle of Ohio (Denison) and write about Earth sciences (for Discover).
I am a volcanologist/petrologist who studies what magma does inside #volcanoes before/during/after eruptions. #Zircon is my mineral of choice and I've blasted them in rocks from Mt. Hood, Lassen Peak, Tarawera, Tumalo Volcanic Center.
I have been known to write about music, baseball, history, science fiction.
@seislologist hi friend!!
Hello, #Caturday! This is Katla! She is 3 years old, and I adopted her in April of 2020. She is named after one of the most infamous volcanoes in Iceland.
Katla is very friendly and vocal. She loves people and tries to make herself the center of attention at all times. If you were to visit, she'd be in your face immediately. But also be warned, she has no respect for personal space - neither for people, nor for Andreas. I've given up on hoping she'll stop following him into the litterbox...

Hi! I'm a #volcanologist in #NewZealand (not part of Australia) working on a few different things, but mostly Ngauruhoe #volcano, or the real Mount Doom from LOTR.
I have been working to get #eruption information out to people over on the bird app and through media when needed, and helping people learn about our volcanically active planet.
Now part of the #Twittermirgration and hopefully ready for the learning curve. #Introduction #Scicomm
(A mastodon-only thread)
1. I just finished reading a delightful Journal of Political Economy paper by Ely, Frankel, and Kamenica about how people enjoy the revelation of information for its own sake.
Either way you learn who wins in the end, but a blowout baseball game is boring whereas the first game of the 2022 World Series was exciting and then some.
So, an #introduction? Still confused, but my interests are #earthquakes #paleoseismology #archeology #volcanos #seismology #astrophysics #kindness
#Mostly confused. #Seismology. #Volcanos. #Astrophysics. # Archaeology. #Art. #Interior Design. Most science.
