A total of 772 Norwegian Jews were deported for extermination. 26 of them survived the war.

So this is my first post on Mastodon.

Part of my work as a volcanologist with the Italian National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia, INGV) is the real-time surveillance of seismic and volcanic activity in the volcanic areas of Sicily. This is done in 8-hour shifts in the Operations Room of the INGV seat in Catania, the Osservatorio Etneo. This is me making a stupid face during my latest shift, on 5 November 2022.

These striations were formed by the movement of an ice sheet that covered parts of Fife around 20000 years ago (which is actually very recent 😅). As a glacier flows it drags along sediment and other debris at its base, scouring and abrading the underlying bedrock.
The presence of cross-cutting striations indicates at least two different directions of glacial flow 🧊

So, what if Earth had rings? It'd certainly be a beautiful sight to see every night! The Earth is too close to the Sun to maintain icy rings like Saturn as depicted here, though could host a rocky one. We probably did have one briefly after a massive planetary collision, but that rapidly coalesced into the Moon we have today. Undoubtedly if it existed today, it would wreak havock on our communication satellites.
