Moderna is planning to charge $130 for its COVID vaccine, but the vaccine only costs $2.85 to make.

Meanwhile, over the last two years, the company made over $19 billion in profits off the vaccine.

Folks, this is what corporate greed looks like.

@MKSinSA Questions like the one your neighbor asked aren't asked because they want an answer. They ask questions like that to manipulate the narrative and shift the burden of proof.
The way to respond to them is with another question, like for example, "why do you think that is the case?" or "if trash pickup never happened on any holiday, would that change how you feel about this issue?"
The advantage of this type of response is that you don't need to know the answer to a particular question. And even if you do know the answer to a particular question, they are prepared with a talking point to counter it, so if you respond in a way that they don't expect, then they can't use their talking points.

@JoshuaHolland Ex-chef here. After years of cooking in restaurants, my little gas burner at home is pathetic and puny. If an induction can get my wok up to stir fry temps, then I will certainly give it a try.

@idoubtit I was exited and overjoyed at first, but after watching that trailer, I'm kind of m'eh about it. It doesn't seem like his style of humor.

@f00fc7c8 @ada I think that's the best we can hope for. Being federated should be a big help, but let's not forget that the entire internet was once composed of many, many different websites, forums, and blogs, and now all we have is Facebook, Instagram, and Reddit. If "the powers that be" see an opportunity (or a threat), they can put considerable weight behind whatever is advantageous. As I said, time will tell.

@randynose @ada Time will tell. If I'm wrong, I will be happy to admit it. Can you say the same thing?

It's not "Mastodon" unless you're being hosted in the Mastodonte region of France, otherwise it's just Sparkling Federated Instance.

#MastodonMemes

@seedyh weird, they must have different factories for different regions

@oaksong
I understand what you're saying, and that is certainly a piece of the puzzle. But this particular...
hmmm, let's call it "cult-like movement"
has a very strong mental defense reflex mechanism.
They reflexively interpret any facts or logic that disagrees with what they think, they interpret that as an attack. They won't let you get close enough to have a chance of getting through. You have to sneak ujp on them with it.
The analogy to a cult is not quite right, it has elements of cult-like tactics, but there is more to it also.
(this is an analogy, mind you. Don't take it literally)
Instead of a cult, a better analogy is, I would call it an artificially induced mental illness. So instead of deprogramming, I would say something like CBT would have a better chance of working. Here is a short video that explains one way to start. youtube.com/watch?v=ASn-VdevwT

@post A lot of us are interacting the same way we did 20 years ago, but the game has changed. If you want to win an argument, or even better, change a mind, you can't give away your hand. It's kind of like a religion for them, so you have to trick them into listening. I don't want to take up too much of your time, but if you want to know more about what I mean, here is an example. youtube.com/watch?v=n86yHgHVA0

@seedyh wait...what? Are you serious? I figured they were the same nationwide.

@medigoth I've been arguing with creationists for years, and yet it seems to have done little good. Sometimes it feels futile, but I found a secret weapon. If more of us learn about it and use it, it may just turn things around. It's called Street Epistemology. youtube.com/watch?v=ASn-VdevwT

@oaksong You know that and i know that, but that isn't how you win an argument with one of them. We aren't arguing the facts of the matter, we are arguing against 30 years of brainwashing.
As long as we play defense, they will control the narrative and shift the burden of proof.

Trying to think of an extremely shiny poppy late-90s pop song that I can’t pin down. Something about a garden? Like extremely disposable? I’m trying to say Meredith but I don’t think that’s right based on searches.
