@rbreich The guy at the grocery store was trying to tell me it's because of Ukraine. So I guess that's the latest talking point.

@AdamStuartSmith I had the Struthiomimus! I don't have any now though. It's nice looking at other people's collections, I will look into the forum.

@dangillmor I have been very welcoming of all the new people here, but I will not welcome the slackers who may have studied but haven't earned the title of and especially the can go jump in the lake. I remain one of the more informed peoiple without ever giving any money to what passes for news in this country.

Every day that passes without an apology from the New York Times for its atrocious 2016 campaign coverage -- and a meaningful description of how it will do better -- is evidence that the "Paper of Record" remains broken in one of its most important functions. There is a fundamental arrogance to the institution, and a relentless insistence on business as usual in political coverage.

If and when democracy falls, the New York Times will have been complicit.

I hope memory foam mattresses don’t remember everything

@darryl The premise was interesting and I like the cast, but it was too long. I probably won't watch it again.

@AdamStuartSmith i must be a little older than you. I had various dino figures, but I think some of them were knock-offs.
But around 1974 or 75, I got a complete Marx set for Christmas, with a base and with trees and cycads, and some rocky caves. It had all rare ones like Ceratogaulus and Moschops, and Sphenacodon. It also included the bigger version of Brontosuarus and the cooler version of T. Rex, and it also had a couple of cavemen, one of whom was poised in the midst of throwing a large rock over his head. I hadn't even thought about it until now, but now I kind of wish I still had it.

@AdamStuartSmith I had a bunch of those toys when I was a kid, but I don't remember that color of plastic.

When Boeing buys an advertisement on Cable news, it's not because they expect you to buy a 747. When a drug company buys an advertisement, it's not because they expect you to "ask your doctor about..."
They aren't really buying ads at all. What they are doing is buying "favorable coverage insurance".
After all, they wouldn't want to upset one of their bigger advertisers by telling the truth.

It’s so cold out I saw a politician with his hands in his own pockets.

We have “95% of the renewable technologies” to power the world now. We don’t need miracles we need political will and not in the pockets of fossil fuel giants. Using what we have now and stop using fossil fuels could get us to 80% renewable usage by 2030. theguardian.com/environment/20

Time travelers probably have to spend a lot of time explaining to people in the future why we cared so much about the dangers of looking at women’s nipples and so little about the fact that the planet we lived on was actually on fire.
