Landlords attributing rent increases to "the market" is a tactic they use to collectively defend their interests, masking the power dynamics they hold within the capitalist system and deflecting responsibility. This rhetoric obscures the influence of a select group shaping economic conditions.

I wonder if #sciencemastodon can figure out if molecules or the periodic table can make sounds beats. We have to know what they sound like.

@bonifartius @jeffowski What are your principles based on? I'm talking in general, not neccessarily about this specific subject. Do you base your principles on evidence or faith or something else?

@bonifartius @jeffowski But my original question was about confidence, not principles. Are your principles what give you confidence?

@bonifartius @jeffowski Ten is very confident. I wish I was that confident. Can you tell me how you arrived at that level of confidence?

@babyrazzs I guess that's cool, but i don't need LIDAR or TV screens or self driving. I just want a basic electric car that gets me where I want to go. I don't even mind if it has old fashioned crank windows. I'm just sick of paying for petroleum.

@bonifartius @jeffowski
Ok, I understand where you're coming from, but I have a couple of questions about where you said "removing billionaires by whatever means doesn't magically makes everyone else more rich or happier".
You seem very confident about that. On a scale of 1 to 10, how confident are you about that?

@bonifartius @jeffowski That's a great question!
Every person is different, and since only you know what your special skills are, that means I can't tell you.
Keep learning and thinking and growing, and sure an answer will come to you I'm eventually.

@jeffowski It's *great* that anti-billionaire sentiments are getting more common, but talk without action is potentially counter-productive. The more we "telegraph" our intentions, the more they will fund the increase in fascism to keep us so busy fighting for survival, that we don't have time to "eat the rich".

@e_urq One thing that I hope others keep in mind, is that this political "movement" isn't only dangerous to Trans people, just like the Brown Shirts weren't only dangerous to Jews. Anyone can be at risk, even their own supporters if it's expedient.

Focusing on language is a glue trap for civil rights movements.

It begins because liberals love being told the exact right words to use- it means you're not asking something that requires effort.

Slowly you find you're mostly talking about what words and phrases are respectful. Then they spring the trap.

Now your movement stands accused of being all about empty performance. They rebel by refusing to use the words and phrases they forced you to focus on so they didn't have to take any action.

The next time you see a writer, an artist or another creative person promoting their work in the Fediverse ... and you are annoyed by this, please take a look at the quote by Durgadas Allon Duriel.

And this is also a friendly reminder that artists and small businesses are not huge corporations or companies with a lot of money. These people have to pay their bills etc. like everyone else. So they have to talk about their works and products.

As someone whose own book “They Called Us Enemy” made the banned list, I approve of this swearing-in for Central Bucks County, PA!

A knowing smile doesn't actually require knowledge, only a mouth.

Creators, more than anyone, need to speak out against this false ‘us vs. them' narrative. It's a disingenuous ploy, like when Facebook said cross-app tracking was ‘good for small businesses’.

I encourage anyone to adblock my stuff, and I know I'm not alone in that. Every creator has a part to play in promoting better security practices and fairer business models.
