@tripu Good article. It's been a long time since I agreed with a conservative. It's interesting that he and I both agree that media is a big part of the problem. Perhaps our shared hypothesis is correct, and the Right and the Left would find even more common ground without the for-profit news media getting in the way.

@villavelius Sounds good to me, but that is exactly the opposite of what our so-called representatives are trying to ram through: the 30% flat tax. And the irony is that if they get it, they will blame the ill effects on progressivism, and many will believe them.

@froomkin I hope that the @nytimes @washingtonpost @NBCNews et al understand that I have been here longer than they have, and I haven't needed them so far, so they can stay over at Twitter and I won't miss them one bit. I am indubitably the most well informed person on my block, and I haven't paid a cable bill or bought a newspaper in 20 years. American journalism is useless and deprecated.

@jayrosen_nyu @froomkin To the surprise of no one, the @nytimes @washingtonpost @NBCNews et al are beginning to horserace 2024 just like 2016, treating fascist, racist candidates as normal. The wilful blindness and hubris are stupifying and frightening.

@SocJusticeBLM @futurebird I can't answer that particular question either, however I have been trying to learn about the forces at work in this topic, and I have figured out a couple of things. One of the reasons that rationality has a harder time attracting converts seems to be that it offers no replacement for what it takes away. For example, suppose a Catholic looses their faith. It's easy for them to fall into, say, crystal healing and astrology, because it fills the empty spot where the religion used to be. It takes a whole lot more work to fill that hole with Science or Logic. This is why Qanon has been so contagious and virulent. It can be anything and fill any hole. It can even make it's own holes and then fill them. Compared to our side, it's an unfair advantage.

my biggest criticism about the original Star Wars is that they called it a "Death Star". any evil imperialist organization worth its salt would hire a consulting firm to come up with something like "Liberation Sphere"

What are the biggest difference between how you feel on mastodon and how you feel on twitter?

How likely is it that you will still be on Mastodon a year from now?
