@idoubtit That song is an ear-worm. I'm glad I didn't hear it or it would be stuck in my head all day.
@adamwb @breadandcircuses @pluralistic The entire country of Germany (90m ppl) runs on a return system for both glass and plastic bottles. Glass bottles here have a code identifying their type molded into the bottom. All supermarkets have machines that count and sort bottles, and give out deposit coupons. These reusable glass bottles are used for almost everything from beer through soda and including water. The system handles both standardized bottles and manufacturer-specific ones.
@whknott @enoch @StillIRise1963 If that's the only thing you can think of, and if you think you can still be valuable to the cause from inside a prison, who am I to tell you what to do. But I would imagine that likely you have a particular talent that would be of more use to help us improve society..
@interacter Thanks I will try that.
@the_Effekt Our strength comes from diversity. Different people have different talents, and we need everyone to do what they are good at.
@enoch @StillIRise1963 Essential, but not sufficient. The Right does boycotts too, but they also do a lot of other things. We need to start getting creative with those other things. Flyers, sit-ins, demonstrations. Throw everything at the wall and see what sticks
@BuffaloRude @StillIRise1963 Me too. I have one right across the street, but I don't mind going out of my way.
@the_Effekt Boycotting is a big and powerful thing we can do, but it's not the only thing.
For example, let's take current events in Florida. If Disney makes less money because of the governor's policies, they will fight against those policies, but if they make more money, they will fellate Governor DeSnowflake.
So a boycott is essential, but not sufficient. Human psychology being what it is, the principles that govern the behavior of individuals also apllies to large groups. So when thinking about organizations, corporations, and governments, it's useful to think in terms of inter-personal relationships. If we reduce it to a personal level like that, we can assume the role of that one kid on the playground who got the 2 bullies to fight each other by saying to each of them "Did you hear what he said about you?" This is but one example of the "outside of the box" strategies we need to employ. There are many others.
@projectgus @futurebird I agree, it's not as good as it was, but not bad enough to go back to Google.
@idoubtit I just watched a video about that kind of "skeptic", and we were chatting in the comments. They call themselves skeptics, but they just think they know better and think that they are inherently superior thinkers to others. Their entire identity is rooted in thinking they are better. That isn't skepticism, it's an excuse to be smug and arrogant. I consider myself a skeptic, but I don't want anything to do with those guys (and they are all guys)
@OlDude82 I'm a radical, but not really liberal.
I believe..
..People are created equal, but the experiences they have and the choices they make render them different
..the fortunate will spend a hundred dollars to avoid giving a homeless man ten dollars
...democracy is tenuous and easily lost. If we don't defend it, they will take it away.
TIME TO GET FUCKING RADICAL!
