Mastodon is closer to true freedom of speech than other social media, because you can bitch about something a friend or family member did without them seeing it.

“This is unacceptable!” we shouted while starting to accept it.

New viral video fad: shoot self-driving cars in the sensors with a paintball gun to make them stop and block traffic.

Week…8? 9…?
However long it takes, @sagaftra stands (and walks!) in solidarity with the writers!

@me1000 You gotta give 'em a little push sometimes. I'm seeing all kinds of people who I would've thought would have left Twitter ny now, so I just give 'em a gentle little push in the right direction. Sometimes that's all it takes.

We're moving from a world where you could find pretty good answers to just about any question, for free, to a world where that will no longer be the case.

Today, you can read a few different pages on a topic, filter out the content farm junk, and become fairly confident you have a real answer. This is not possible with chat agents powered by #LLMs.

The barrier to learning about a new topic just got higher. Print books published pre-2023 will become more valuable as sources.

“The magical feeling of so many modern products and services is too often explained by throwing money at low-paid labourers. Same day delivery? Online purchases of anything? Expedited free returns? Moderation of comments and images? As much as it looks from our perspective like the work of advancements in computing power, none of it would be possible without tens of thousands of people doing their best to earn a living spending unpredictable hours doing menial tasks.” pxlnv.com/linklog/inside-ai-fa

"One man's junk is another man's treasure" needs to be put on a nice big sign
at a pride parade.

@scm @StillIRise1963 I am currently considering that myself. If you have any details, I wouldn't mind hearing them.

There are some things that just have to be photographed. This kind of chalk-based street art definitely qualifies. It’s beautiful, whimsical, and sadly, ephemeral.

@willmckinley Coincidentally, that was also the year my Grandmother started saying "that thing will rot your mind!"
Turns out, she was right.

Color TV debuted 72 years ago today — June 25, 1951.

#EdSullivan hosted PREMIERE, the first commercially sponsored color show (on 5 CBS affiliates).

Few saw it, because color sets weren’t on sale yet! And CBS’s color broadcasts were incompatible w/ B&W TVs.
