@NorcalGma2 @CodieneC I didn't know he did "shows". Was it like a comedy show minus the comedy? That's nuts.

@Adam_Cadmon1 I know that and you know that, but how do we get the media to start saying it out loud without using euphemism ?

@CodieneC @NorcalGma2 About 15 or 20 years ago, I found a store with very cool products that I had been looking for, but the radio was playing Rush Limbaugh, so I turned around and I left and never returned to this day.
If that was my local drugstore, I would drive 20 miles out of my way to go to a different drugstore., even for one postage stamp.

@Adam_Cadmon1
I almost completely agree; we especially need to pressure the news media to stop calling them "christian nationalists". That one is even worse than far-right for the same reasons.
But where I disagree is that i think the word "Fascist" has lost it's sting. I call them God-nazis but maybe we can brainstorm something that will go viral. Whatever we come up with, we need to get the mass media to start using it.

I saw a bumper sticker that said "one nation under god". If god lives up in the sky, aren't all nations under him? Or is he in a geostationary orbit?

Watched season two of Strange New Worlds and it was great.

@pre I felt exactly the opposite about the musical episode. I thought I would hate it, but I actually enjoyed it. Although I must say that I'm not sure I will feel like watching it again anytime soon. Did you know they released a soundtrack album for that episode?
Nurse Chapel is nice, but I can't really pick a favorite. La'an and Uhura are also very nice. And of course Number One.

Hey, tooters.

I'm looking for an #artist with expertise in #BotanicalIllustration. We'd like to commission one that we can use for postcards and what not.

You know what I love about the fedi? All of the super cool niche "weird" (in the nicest way possible) folks are here. Do your thing! 😉

Some Thoughts on Debate On The Internet:

What Good Debate Looks Like:

Hello, I was reading your post, and have some different thoughts on the matter. Here are some legitimate sources that back up my ideas. Thanks for listening.

What Bad Debate Looks Like:

Jesus Christ, what a ridiculous idea! Here is a personal anecdote and a podcast I heard about why you're an idiot.

Remember:

Unless you have a doctorate in the subject you're talking about (and sometimes even if you do) the point of debate is to learn something new, and challenge your own thoughts on the matter.

If this is a very personal matter that you feel really emotional about, take a minute to think or calm down before you respond. Passion is great when used in a controlled manner, but can come off irrational if it isn't.

Yep, you have the right to free speech, but people also have to right to ignore you, especially if you are being rude or dismissive.

Anecdotes are not evidence! Your life experience is not everyone's. That doesn't mean people don't care, they may just not understand.

It's better to make allies than enemies. Most of the people I've met on Mastodon, other than a few exceptions, have been left leaning and want similar things. Before you go off on a small issues, try to establish what you have in common.

Make sure you actually understand what a person is saying before you get upset and block. I've read posts that have seemed sexist, racist, or homophobic, but it was out of context or I misread it, it's great to ask questions. Also, remember you may have information that this person doesn't have about why something is inappropriate. Give that information in a kind way, with sources.

Ask your Fox-watching friends if they’ve seen stories about Rep. Lauren Boebert publicly groping with her date and vaping at a public performance of Beetlejuice, all with kids present. Bet they’ll look at you blankly because Fox has simply not aired the story since it broke according to media watchers.
Fox knows Boebert is in a district she nearly lost in 2022, and that the road to the House majority might run through Colorado’s 3rd. The network isn’t “fair and balanced.” That’s a joke. Fox is warped and twisted, just like the party it services.
Pro-tip: change the content controls on home cable systems so technologically challenged folks can’t access Fox. You might just save them from being sucked in further.

@iBlame A woman named Jen Senko did an entire documentary - and then wrote a follow-up book - about what right wing media did to her formally liberal Democrat Party voting dad, and in turn examines how this kind of hate speech was able to make it into the mainstream:
