There are rows of short pruned trees, with fruit-laden grape vines festooned between them. The trees are common natives that produce #fruit, firewood, #basketmaking materials, & #fodder for farm animals. The grapes are ancient cultivars that have been grown for millennia. Between rows of grapes & trees are diverse plots of cereals, hayfields, vegetables, & herbs. In a single field, one can find all of the staples needed to live & support the farmstead. This is a resilient system modeled on a #forest. Unlike monocultures of grapes or grain, diversity is the strength here. Disease outbreaks & unseasonable weather have a limited impact. If one crop has a bad year, there are a dozen others to pick up the slack. It's beyond exasperating to see @rsf_en calling out the very real threat Twitter poses to democracy even as is continues empowering and legitimizing the platform. This seems absolutely bonkers.

If you're not willing to stop using the site, shut the hell up about Twitter.

Navigating our "healthcare system" with an unhoused neighbor who's had a broken hand since Monday and wasn't ready to endure this until the swelling and pain became unbearable today, we called 911 this morning for an ambulance, a fire truck showed half an hour later, firefighters took vitals and administered no care, called for an ambulance which wouldn't come, half an hour later AMR called us a one-way taxi to urgent care, taxi came half an hour later, urgent care hasn't heard of us so we're a walk-in, we've now been waiting another hour without receiving any care

If we forced gun owners to insure their weapons for liability, the insurance industry would explain - in dollars and cents - how dangerous having a gun in your house is versus NOT having a gun.

If every gun purchaser had to also purchase liability insurance for their death machine (that's what guns literally are), far fewer of them would purchase guns - because they couldn't afford the insurance bite.

I wonder if that's why we've never forced the owners of a device designed to KILL people to take FINANCIAL responsibility for their possession. Cars kill people BY ACCIDENT yet we're all forced - by law - to insure ourselves in case something UNEXPECTED happens.

The gun industry has bamboozled America to literal death.

It's amazing how quickly fungi appears. Yesterday there were a few scattered around this wooden planter in the garden, today it was fully surrounded. LOADS of them.
