Just a reminder to all the new arrivals here:
These instances are NOT commercial entities like #Twitter ... someone is paying the bills for servers and networking, and the massive influx of people like us are raising those costs enormously.
Be a good citizen, checkout the "About this server" link, and if you can, make a donation towards costs.

Never thought Elon Musk would do so much for the adoption of a decentralised infrastructure…
Please Elon, can you buy Elsevier ?
When people find out I'm a lousy electrician, they're usually shocked.

request for comments, fedi blocks
i want to make a little website to aggregate and organize fediblocks, and existing instance blocklists, and tell you how to import it in your instance and submit reports. im thinking of splitting it by easy to confirm tags (racism, antisemitism, transphobia, etc) and include an archive of the posts and whether its still published. all this anonymous so chuds cant harass you for submitting instances.
we have needed this since forever, no one has built it afaik, what do you think. am i missing a critical point. is this perfect. please we need to improve society somewhat

Really important thing you need to know about Mastodon: You don't need to use the official app!
There are some good third party apps listed on Mastodon's own site:
The third party apps have more features and had way more development time.
Android users might want to start with Tusky and Fedilab
iPhone/iPad users might want to read this: https://transponderings.blog/2022/05/21/eight-mastodon-apps-for-iphone/
Mastodon is an open platform, so third party apps can use its features fully.

A cryptobro DMed me to ask if I wanted to join his mailing list.
I spent slightly too long making this to send in reply.

I’m seeing long-time Mastodon folks asking people to please PLEASE use CW on posts about political topics and then I’m seeing almost no one actually do that. It’s so important to keep up with the culture of this space that was established long before many of us got here. Just use the CW!!

Migrated from Twitter to Mastodon but finding it hard to find the folks you used to follow?
Fedifinder can help. https://fedifinder.glitch.me
Cool tool for finding your old Twitter buddies that have moved to Mastodon (and what you can do on your Twitter account to help others find you here)
Please reblog/boost to spread the word. (Liking/Favouriting won’t help)

Do you have a WordPress blog?
You can turn it into a Fediverse server using a simple plug-in. This means that people on Mastodon can follow it just like they follow any account on here.
Here's more info about how to do it:
https://fedi.tips/the-fediverse-beyond-mastodon/#WordPress
(NOTE: This doesn't work on free blogs hosted by wordpress.com)
If you appreciate the plugin, remember to send its maker @pfefferle some donations at https://notiz.blog/donate
