Example obviously exaggerated but if you don't consciously allow yourself to be influenced by the media you consume, what do you hope to gain from it apart from a brief bout of escapism?

I think it's fascinating how some people are like "stories is how we comprehend the world around us. They are a device to reflect upon our reality" and then proceed to buy a louis vuitton bag 2 days after reading the Great Gatsby or some shit like that

I constantly get ads for a kickstarter for a mushroom-themed TTRPG and I have never felt this targeted before.

@LouisIngenthron It's not better or more right. It's the one that established itself when the technology was still in its infancy. And I think it's just good form to adapt the established norms of a platform you join.

Honestly, I don't care too much about the specifics but it's a constant annoyance when you already have problems with writing to people you're not super close with.

@LouisIngenthron I think we can agree that each form of written communication derived from letters is entitled to its own set of conventions and protocols. Otherwise, we'd be currently writing to each other in letter form and the people using telegraphs would have had a really expensive time sending multiple-page messages.

Also, we (as in younger and/or nerdy people) used those messengers first and therefore established a protocol which you now choose to break after adapting the technology. So don't give me that "But it's rude" crap

What is it with old people who start and end every conversation on instant messengers like a letter or email?

Yes, there is some protocol involved in starting and ending a conversation but we probably did that the first time. So can't we just drop that stuff and get to the point? Also, nobody below 30 does that stuff so learn to read the room.
