Every time I pass a NVIDIA card to a VM I forget I need to hide the virtualization or the drivers won't work. I feel dumb for forgetting, but then again it's pretty dumb we have to do that in the first place.

I had to have a talk about Ivermectin with a family member. I straight up asked her if she has worms and if not, why she wanted to take horse dewormer.

There will never be zero infection risk. If your goal is zero risk, you'll never reach it, but in trying to do so, you'll demand authoritarianism. In which case we still won't have zero risk, but we will have authoritarianism with some non-zero degree of infection risk.

@DavidBond Saw on CNBC of all places that they reversed the decision? Someone in their c-suite should write a book on how _not_ to run a company.

@bluejay @freemo Genetic mutations happen all the time, it's the conditions under which that occurs that determine the mutation's 'success,' for lack of a better word

@bluejay @freemo Vaccines don't cause the variant, but they can give the variant a competitive advantage (or disadvantage) such that one gains (or retains) dominance

@freemo True and there's been no shortage of criticism that they were only designed for emergency use. I don't see how it follows though, that further progress won't be made or permitted, keeping us in a constant state of quarantine.

@freemo To be fair, booster shots are a pretty normal thing. As for government intervention, I don't have a clear answer to that. Although I can tell you in my State the mandates are gone for the general public. They're still required sometimes, and public schools are the moral outrage topic right now, but the dichotomy isn't as drastic as 'all quarantine all the time' vs 'abandon all masks ye who enter.'

I know that's not the case everywhere though. Maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part, but at least locally things are trending towards greater normalcy.

I'm pretty sure this is how flat earthers and COVID deniers started. It was an absurd joke someone made to make fun of conspiracy theorists. It underestimated the stupidity of these people and became a real thing...

How long before we hear the fediverse filled with people thinking this shit is legit too.

Random early morning

I feel like the various servers in the should be more explicit on which other servers they block and why. For example, joinmastodon.org boasts there are over 4M users but it seems like the top 3 servers block maybe 1/4 to 1/2 of that? Granted they're probably blocking what the average person would find to be the most objectionable content.

Just on mastodon.social alone you have to click to the ToS and scroll down to see what's blocked and even then it doesn't really give you the whole picture. It conveys more information than Twitter would ever give you. That's not exactly a high bar though.

Before anyone gets started, I think individual servers should be able to block whatever they want. I'm sure this has come up before too, but I don't see any reason not to continue the conversation. When that many people are silenced a little more transparency could be a good thing.

@Pat Pfizer was just approved yesterday but the other two are still only available under the government's emergency use authorization. That's the case in the US anyway.

@realcaseyrollins sure, but I put the blame squarely on HBO for requiring your browser to download proprietary code to use the website

Pfizer vaccine got full approval. Get your shots if you haven't already. 💉💉💉💉💉

@realcaseyrollins imo HBO is the problem, not you, their idiotic rules and didn't even make pirates blink yet they continue to make using their service a pain in the ass

@FederalAgent69 @eee In that case there is no cognitive dissonance because your current behavior and beliefs are consistent with your existing patterns.

@FederalAgent69 @eee Sure, if it works. A lot of people seem to be missing my point. If you're someone who always believed the FDA and the executive branch were going to fuck you over, and therefore were never going to follow their recommendations, you're not who I'm talking about.

@FederalAgent69 @eee It didn't work so it's no longer recommended. Seems pretty straightforward to me.

@DavidBond Or that. I don't know if it would have helped their business though. Part of why this is happening is that the BBC got their hands on a document proving OF deliberately wasn't taking down questionable accounts because it was more profitable. 'Questionable' meaning no age verification was done, as far as I know there's no actual proof minors were involved. That would make this a very different story, but it was enough perceived liability to freak out the banks.

Anyway, ditching traditional payment processors in favor of btc may have just made that worse. In my opinion it would have just opened them up to a whole new series of "think of the children" complaints.
