What you're talking about is a mistrial, not an appeal. A mistrial can generally occur in two ways. First, there's a hung jury, which is still a possibility here. The second is significant misconduct or errors that make the possibility of a fair trial impossible. It is possible for a mistrial to be declared after the fact but it's rare. Typically if either side thought the process was unfair they make make their motions at that time, rather than gamble on the jury.

We should start treating the DOD like we do the USPS. Make them justify every single dollar spent, fund pensions for people that haven't been born yet, and then still slash their funding. Social security could remain solvent for generations with enough left over to give evil commie healthcare to everyone. Plus, the god damn mail might be on time for once.

@freemo I'm not entirely proud of it but I've remained largely ignorant on the case and ignored all the memes. However, I am extremely proud that I got called a lieing foreign troll on "other" social media when I corrected someone's assumption that the prosecution can successfully appeal if he's found not guilty.

@skells I'm someone who thinks we should avoid antiparasitics until better information is available and I still had to stop watching after he said "Professor of Communication." I just can't, not today anyway...

@realcaseyrollins Even though it seems like a simple question there isn't really a simple answer. Everyone handles their high differently.

@realcaseyrollins This varies widely from person to person. Unlike other drugs alcohol doesn't have a half-life, it is continually metabolized by the liver at a general rate of 1 drink per hour. How far you deviate from that rate of metabolism depends on many factors. There's some interesting research into ADLH2 deficiency which also suggests that people with that gene are both more likely to abuse alcohol as well as more likely to suffer the carcinogenic effects of alcohol metabolism.

@RTP This seems pretty innocuous just based on the article. The goal is to *not* power on the camera so users aren't spooked by the light. I'm not saying it couldn't be abused, I don't know enough about the kernel to make that claim. However, at the moment I'm more annoyed you might not know your new laptops webcam was DOA until you try and use it.

Any website that claims to do CPU benchmarking, but doesn't give proper consideration to multi-core performance, is simply garbage. That is all.

@feditips I've tried tusky and fedilab. Neither have support for server side customizations like quote tooting, so I went back to a browser. I do keep tusky installed for the push notifications though.

@fribbledom I also cannot stand that greasy lotion feeling. My palms are usually fine, it's my knuckles and the backs of my hands that get painfully dry, so I'll put the lotion directly on the backs of my hands and rub only the backs together. You look silly doing it but at least I don't feel greasy.

@worldsendless Not resource use in general, just CPU time. The default for any process started by a regular user is typically 0. By renicing the process to -10 I'm telling the kernel that the game should get more CPU time than all other processes with a higher value. So all those Firefox tabs, slack, email, nonessential systemd daemons, etc. running in the background should now have lower priority. I say "should" because niceness isn't the only factor the kernel uses when determining actual priority. I settled on -10 as a sane value because that gives the game more CPU time than nonessential processes but isn't low enough to interfere with critical system processes.

Anyone know if enrolling your own secure boot keys still bricks the Thinkpad T14 motherboard? Thinking about buying the Gen 2 AMD version to replace my T490S, but it's a total dealbreaker if I might have to send it back for repairs just because I changed a simple UEFI setting.
