Austrian Actress Hedy Lamarr (Hedwig Eva Maria Kiesler) was born #OTD in 1914 (not 1913).

At the beginning of World War II, she and avant-garde composer George Antheil developed a radio guidance system for Allied torpedoes that used spread spectrum and frequency hopping technology to defeat the threat of jamming by the Axis powers. Either it is consequential (in that she is sacked) or it is significant (in what it tells us about a government which does not sack her).

I know little about Israel/Palestine/Gaza (and so am not commentating on that directly) but I do know something about Ireland, and that column is unacceptable.
