I just read on the birdsite that the framework wars are heating up again, but it's between three flavors of corporate-sponsored react framework. I think this means we can stop paying attention to it now and unsubscribe from the whole thing.

He's just so unbelievably close.

I don't think React is inherently better or worse than any other framework out there but it's hard to choose anything else because of how many extraordinarily hard problems you have to solve from scratch if you want to build bullet proof UIs.

Here's a much less polite take: frameworks are so complex and confusing it requires the influence of an entire Chattering Class of content creators to drive adoption and implementation on 5% or fewer websites, a significant portion of which objectively don't need it.

I realize that complaining about the lack of functional pockets in women's clothing is so last month, but Jesus H. Bricklaying Christ On A Skateboard I just discovered a company that makes underwear with functional pockets for men. UNDERWEAR.

This just isn't funny anymore.

This book is a visual metaphor for my entire career as a front end developer who works almost exclusively in legacy codebases.

The funniest thing about the minor earthquake in buffalo this morning is that the most common initial reaction was "I thought someone drove a car into my house". This is funny because buffalo is the world capital of people driving their car into your fucking house.

So today I learned that the web component shadow dom totally encapsulates all your styles except for all the different holes into which your global styles can leak. This has always been a global cascade stan account but it still seems counterintuitive to me.
