@johnnypixels *groan* 😆
I never joined Twitter or really posted on Facebook. I'm somewhat of a private person, not wanting to expose myself to too much online. But Mastodon reminds me of "old internet" by being a bit clunky and complicated to use, which I hope selects for the people that I tend like.
I used to work as a software engineer in Silicon Valley, but moved back to Europe and wanted to do something different. Currently I'm studying physics and math, hoping to complete a master's degree by 2024.
I'm here looking for insightful or helpful interactions around topics
of #physics, #math and #programming. I'm also looking for a place to toot my horn a little about personal projects and things I've learned, since many of my interests are too esoteric for my real-life friends.
Merry Christmas you absolutely amazing people! I hope you and your families have a totally fantastic time. #MerryChristmas #Christmas #Family #PositiveVibes
@Cat_LeFey Some interesting information there, thank you. But... I have some questions. Not everybody with VI uses a screen reader. Some are using their own rather faulty eyes with huge fonts etc. In those circumstances some of this advice seems misplaced? Saying something like "it's a picture of" would be helpful there and does no harm for anyone else, maybe? Also, putting the text in all available places surely helps *all* VI people, whatever method they're using? If I'm posting a photo of my own, I'm pretty sure posting my opinion about it is okay. If I think a tree is beautiful, I feel like I can say so? Also, non-VI people are also going to be reading the text I would hope. The more inclusive the better, surely? Genuine questions - by making things more inclusive, and trying to make things work better for a wider audience, am I making it harder for a specific group? And if so, how do I balance those needs?
Just in case any #StarTrek fans haven’t seen this lovely mashup carol, ‘tis the season!

I know this time of your is fraught with arguments as to whether #DieHard is a #Christmas movie or an #ActionMovie.
The TRUTH is that #DieHard is a #LoveStory between two men, so constricted by the societal norms for these two #PoliceOfficers from opposite Coasts, that it took blowing up #NakatomiPlaza to make it ok for them to embrace.
Don't fight me on this.
@trinsec this is true! Though that doesn't always stop me ![]()
Disadvantage of work blowing my body-clock to pieces: I'm awake at 4am.
Advantage of work blowing my body-clock to pieces: I'm awake at 4am. Been for a walk, had coffee on the harbour, taken some photos, been to Moore's and had a lovely, long chat and cuppa with Wills, collected my Christmas food order and am now home and deciding between a nap and breakfast. As in which first, clearly the general answer is "both"! 🙂
@garius you should probably have changed this version to say you saw it on Twitter ;)
@kims applause!
The holidays can be a really tough time. The advice i often heard was, "Volunteer at a soup kitchen. Help others. Get out of your head." It's perfectly fine advice, but unhelpful if the mere thought of interacting with people is overwhelming. Anyway, here's a thing I did one year that did help:
I bought a Cookie Monster costume, went to the airport, and waited at arrivals with a sign that said "COOKIE"
Didn't have to talk to anyone and boy did I get to watch people's faces light up.
This "new readers join here" for the George Santos (fiction) story is a fun read. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/12/23/nyregion/george-santos-republican-resume.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare
Sweary and opinionated. It's best not to take it personally. Also hilarious but that might be less obvious.
