2. To get a mail-in ballot in PA voters "must complete an application and have their identity and qualifications verified."

Republicans are attempting to exclude ballots from thousands of eligible voters, returned on time but without a hand-written date on the outer envelope

Looking to find everyone who is still fighting to reduce the transmission of COVID-19.

We need to work together to lobby for governments to mandate masks, protect children in schools, and protect the vulnerable.

Richard Feynmann served on the commission that investigated the Challenger disaster in 1986, and he observed that much empirical evidence had been ignored and that decisions that led to the disaster had been made for political reasons. Feynman concluded his observations, which appeared in an appendix rather than in the full report, with the statement “For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled.” Progressive discourse requires the group to regard reality as Nature intends, and observation is necessary to expand the factual basis of progressive discourse.

+No, it's just NCSC, scanning your public IPs.

NCSC made a statement that they will be scanning public IPs hosted in the UK against vulnerabilities. They will be coming from the following 2 IP addresses. In case you see them in your logs, don't worry (or worry)

18.171.7.246
35.177.10.231

Also, if you don't want to be scanned and opt-out, you can contact NCSC via scanning@ncsc.gov.uk

Are you in the U.S.? get out to vote today. Your vote matters, and could even help swing a race. In just one example, the election in our congressional district came down to *SIX VOTES* in the last election.

One thing that I think we've lost over the last 20 years is "audio cues" -- the desktop used to give a lot more audio feedback as to the events & status of events.

Empty the recycle bin? It had s simple audio cue play

Copy a folder? You have a audio cue to communicate success.

New email? Cue AOL charming & cringy "You've got mail.wav"

OS Startup? You feel like you are getting excited to get something done withe Windows XP - 7 and early 2000s Ubuntu startup sounds.

I think this principle could be taken so much farther -- perform a Why not have a audio cue for both Success.ogg and Failure.ogg -- or what about password verification, you are multi tasking on the phone or doing something in your office -- having a cue to redirect your attention to that you need to enter a password would be helpful.

Same thing goes for and in

There are times you are compiling a program and it needs extra privileges to install but you don't notice it -- it would make a huge difference if we had a hook system and could Enable/Disable audio cues & notifications -- that would be a huge improvement.

I could really see this also bringing a lot of value in space, with and others.

Its really hard to know what your missing when its been so long since you had it.

Plug in a USB Flash Drive? Audio Cue

Connect / Disconnect your phone to your computer? Audio Cue

Remote SSH Connection logs into your machine? Notification & Audio Cue.

With the right sound packs there is so much room for improvement -- v3 does a good job with this too giving subtle cues as you navigate the UX, startup, shutdown, etc...

I've made a deliberate choice against a quoting feature because it inevitably adds toxicity to people's behaviours. You are tempted to quote when you should be replying, and so you speak at your audience instead of with the person you are talking to. It becomes performative. Even when doing it for "good" like ridiculing awful comments, you are giving awful comments more eyeballs that way. No quote toots. Thank's

The Whole Earth Catalog had its roots in the visionary thinking of 1960s US counterculture. It was a vast compendium of 'tools' for thinking and surviving, encouraging readers to question the power systems and attitudes of the time, while sharing information on the route to self-education and empowerment.
Founded, edited and designed by Stewart Brand, entries included information about building materials, solar energy and bee-keeping as well as yoga, self-hypnotism and Tantra art - all accompanied by evaluative commentary and sources. A best-seller with many editions and permutations, the first catalog
(1968) was 64 pages and the last (1971) was over 300, although there were further variations under the name of 'Whole Earth' thereafter. Its main delight was, in its later editions, its large format (about 36 x 28cm, 14 × I rin), its cluttered mass of images, headings and fonts, and its absence of a clear pathway through the material, which allowed the reader to make interesting connections between different worlds of information, leading some to see it as a forerunner of the internet.
The front and back covers bear the final lasting statement - a photograph taken from outer space of the 'whole earth', beautiful and fragile. Its concluding comment: 'We can't put it together. It is together.'

I suppose, having moved server, introductions are in order again.

I am an ill-tempered political & moral philosopher. I work on #animalethics, particularly #animalrights and justice. I'm also interested in the ethics of activism and political disobedience.

I'm currently writing a book: 'What Are Animal Rights For?' for Bristol University Press.

It's looking increasing like there's a problem with very weird Trump-supporting tech-billionaires. How did we ever end-up with a situation where there are multiple men like this?

It took just 1hr 26 mins from posting that I work on animal rights for some troll to appear from an internet crevice to tell me that he likes eating meat. He really managed to capture some of that old Twitter feel.

I blocked his entire domain.

#introduction

Greetings all.

Just an other person checking out #mastodon as a possible #twitter exit route.

I'm an older geek dad in the California bay area.

Please talk to me about #coffee , #puns , #infosec , #books , #scifi or other geeky topics.

I've already discovered #mastocats hash tag, and it's made the site vastly nicer than Twitter already.

Cheers.
