Probably not a lot of people know this now, but Mastodon's web app started out with "Publish". In 2016 a famous YouTuber jokingly offered to support Mastodon's Patreon forever if I changed the button to say "Toot" instead. Needless to say, this was a really early, and not very informed decision. The first glimpse of attention and financial support. As a non-native speaker I had no idea there was another meaning.

Thoughts on responsible redesign of @bbcmicrobot for the #fediverse:

1) CWs for animated content. Most is fine but flashing graphics can be annoying even harmful

2) Externally hosting video content to reduce burden on our host instance. PeerTube? Will start image-only and investigate.

3) Bot called and replies on the #bbcmicrobot tag so it’s easy to follow and filter.

Would love to hear the views of more experienced community members on this

I want nothing to do with Jack Dorsey’s “Blue Sky” project, which to me looks like a knock-off of ActivityHub/Mastodon, but I’m curious what others think about it (esp. people who may know more than I do). Seems like that, not Twitter, is the closest @Mastodon “competitor”.

I am going to try to find time this weekend to add in several new features to QOTO, fix a few small bugs, and if we aare REALLY lucky and things go well I might release a new version of QOTO this weekend (no promises though my life is CRAZY right now, hard to predict).

A fun little #Midjourney experiment. I've entered the exact same prompt three times, "a punk rocker with a red mohawk sitting at a picnic table with a sandwich ". One is just those words, one has "--v 4" added, and one has "--ar 16:9" added. So how did #MidjourneyAI do with each one?

Musk's behavior reminds me of Ponzi schemers facing down a torrent of withdrawals. He needs cash fast & he's already tapped out his venture partners without "open kimono," which he won't do.

The cash needs to come from Twitter itself, & as Musk gets desperate, he will turn the platform into a grotesque amalgam of PornHub, 8chan, Full Tilt Poker, & The Daily Wire, an account-draining pleasure island for his incel army.

MySpace is not the cautionary tale. AM radio is.

When you’ve had your social media accounts for over a decade and suddenly have to start from scratch but you’re an adult now so you eagerly and unabashedly toot your way into other peoples feeds, self-promote, and seek out those with aligning values and interests. Basically, we’re all about to learn how good (or bad) we are at networking.
