Hey there, Admin of the Internet Archive Mastodon here. I've seen some people speculate/rumor that the Archive's mastodon instance is set up to be an involuntary vacuum spot for all toots passing back into the Wayback, and it is NOT that. Any archiving of toots would be some other project (and outside my knowledge) but the Internet Archive Mastodon is just another instance, doing the mastodon thing. Communicate with us at will.

I'm seeing a lot of proclamations that there should be no exceptions to describing your images or that there's no reason to interact with any that aren't described.

I know these mean well, but they are themselves ableist.

Disabled people know that access needs can clash. I benefit from described images, but I know some people struggle to write them because of their own disabilities.

And that's okay! The culture of image descriptions is great here but it should never be absolutist.

Twiitter was TERRIBLE at verifying folks who were seeing imporsonation but didn't pass some invisible yardstick, especially women and marginalized folks, because Jack diidn't care about them. Now everyone can reinforce that they are who they say they are here.

Individual #verification is incredibly powerful and very reliable. I'm attached to my site, so even if someone was like "wait, is that REALLY them", I could put a video in here of me saying "Yes. This is me. Esdin.net is my actual site".

It's super easy to do and works great, and there's no gatekeeping on who's "important enough" for verification.

Love it when a day of #writing becomes randomly really good. Not only hit my #NaNoWriMo goal no problem, I also got through a really important scene... all while sick with a gnarly cold. Feeling like I might actually be, like, a professional or something.😂

I like how Mastodon breaks social media. A like button is the secret sauce that controls the masses. But on Mastodon, the like button is just a “send my complements to the chef.” It serves no other purpose.
