My quick #introduction: I'm Molly White (she/her) and I'm a software engineer who's been doing a lot more research and writing lately than software engineering.

I research and write about the cryptocurrency and blockchain industry with a critical perspective, and I run https://web3isgoinggreat.com/ (also on fedi at @web3isgreat). I also write https://newsletter.mollywhite.net/.

When I am writing software, it's mostly on that website, or various Python tools to help me with analysis of hacks/etc.

Mastodon has never once told me that someone unfollowed me, and near as I can tell checking involves several clicks.

This strongly implies a culture where folks are just gonna follow each other, like a test drive, and then unfollow sometimes, or work them into their daily content network.

This is all pretty normal and healthy in terms of how the old internet used to work; it's only weird because Twitter & Meta don't work that way anymore.

Just follow ppl; it'll work out, I promise.

Seems like there are some supportive writers here that want to engage and interact with others.

Last week the global population hit 8 billion people. Yes, that’s a lot BUT there are about 1.4 billion insects for every human on Earth. Combined, they weigh about 70x more than all of us.

And insects have been around for over 350 million years. That's longer than the dinosaurs. Modern humans only showed up between 200-300,000 years ago.

We need insects to survive. They don't need us. This is their world.

the founder of hive social is allegedly a 23-year-old woman named kassandra pop who was an online fashion influencer before she picked up coding. however, since the site's growth in popularity, the name of the founder has been changed on the website's about page and a second "original" founder was added. there is also zero history of kassandra pop's status as an influencer online that i could find. super sketchy if you ask me.
