Arrived on Mastodon. Feels like 2006 again in a good way. Thanks to @stux and the team for bringing a fresh wave of positive possibility to social interaction

for the local feed: remember mastodon isn't magic and the rules of crime remain the same.
1. don't do crime
2. don't do crime with two people that can be done with one.
3. don't do crime with three people that can be done with two.
4. don't do crime that requires three or more people because one of them is going to be a cop.
5. bonus rule don't write about the crimes you aren't doing anywhere (signal, mastodon, twitter, livejournal, facebook, telegram, whatsapp, your journal)

Help Mastodon newcomers make connections: name 5-7 things that interest you but aren't in your profile as tags so they are searchable. Then boost this post or repeat its instructions so others know to do the same.

Twitter king Dril on Mastodon: “What server do I join? The good post server or the bad post server? I don’t know. There’s no guide, there’s no little blue bird you can click on for help.”

Elon Musk plans to reinstate nearly ALL previously banned Twitter accounts — to the alarm of activists and online trust and safety experts. The decision will have dangerous consequences, particularly for vulnerable communities. washingtonpost.com/technology/ #twitter #twittermigration #tech #technology #elon #TwitterMigrate

Sure, you've probably made some purchase decisions you regret, but have you ever just set fire to 44 billion dollars? No? Why would anyone?

Ah right. Well, when you purchase a company - for 'da lulz' or some other reason, you pick up a whole bunch of things as part of the package deal. Let's take a quick gander at what Elon paid money for - and then take a look at how he's systematically destroying each one.

So, don't tell anybody, but we're going to announce Palm Pilot emulation in the browser at Internet Archive in the next week or so. I've still got to get descriptions in for the hundreds of apps that are uploaded, and add a few more classics. But if you want to help with that, or just let me know how it's going, ping me here.

But don't tell anybody! It's a secret!

“This thing’s fake,” Katy said, pointing to a photo of the glass sphere. “The markings are etched on the *inside*. You know how you etch the inside of a solid glass ball?”

“No idea,” Carl muttered.

“You make tiny fractures in the glass,” Katy explained, “using - get this - a focused #laser beam.”

“The manifest says it’s from around 1500BCE,” Carl said.

“Oh sure,” Katy scoffed. “I suppose the ancient Greeks managed to develop lasers and just neglected to mention it to anyone."

Here's what all the people saying that there's no infringement are missing:
Milo Minara is an Italian living in Rome.

It doesn't matter if the meme is fair use here. It doesn't matter what we think about moral rights.

He likely has a strong claim, at least on moral rights.

Not every Mastodon instance is a non-profit or run by volunteers.

Two examples of instances run by for-profit entities are:

* twit.social
* mastodon.cloud

Both instances are transparent about this.

I've gotten used to 's shockingly good -completion, but it still freaks me out when its comment completion is also shockingly good, sometimes helping me put into words a concept I was struggling to explain.

One of the main reasons I see why people don't want to migrate to Mastodon is the learning curve. As someone who joined reddit 11 years ago, initially I found it confusing and overwhelming but I learned how to navigate the site eventually. Mastodon is not as confusing or overwhelming and you get acclimated pretty quickly. I hope more people will give it a chance.

RT @EladNehorai@twitter.com

Always love this woman’s videos, so seeing her address Black-Jewish relations head on was incredible. Said with nuance and thought, including specifying the Jews she was discussing.

Just beautifully done. So grateful for such voices ❤️ twitter.com/EladNehorai/status
