I often see far right accounts and publications - but also increasingly people in the pro-democracy camp - saying that the US is a republic and not a democracy.

So I wrote an essay about it, providing some historical context.

I'm reposting this because yesterday the comment section was swamped by far right troll accounts who obviously don't seem to like the US being associated with the term democracy.
