Here’s the first line from today’s #SFF #shortstory: “There are always three: the father, the unfather, and the child.”

This is one of the best first lines I’ve ever read in any story, and Sara S. Messenger’s “Potemora in the Triad” is just getting started, building and building from that masterful opening until you completely and utterly forget to breathe. It's truly one of the most astonishing short stories I’ve ever read. fantasy-magazine.com/fm/fictio

I had to buy new clothes AND a cat carrier AND a pet ticket to get her home. And I will never have faith in the TSA again. (Not that I had a lot of faith to begin with, but there's "this is security theater" and then there's "YOU MISSED THE LIVE CAT.")

Blue lava, found specifically in the Kawah Ijen volcano in Indonesia, the lava is not the typical red colour but neon blue. The lava from this volcano contains large amounts of pure sulphur that glows with an icy blue colour at night.

Second Life, the pioneering virtual world founded in 2003 and still going strong at the ripe old age of 19 with 900,000 active users, is now on Mastodon! Here's the official account: "@ secondlife@mastodon.social" (*without* the space in between!). Here's a direct link to the profile: mastodon.social/@secondlife.

I consider #SecondLife to be the perfect model of a mature, fully-evolved #metaverse, which many newer metaverse-building companies would be wise to study, emulate, and learn lessons from.

Starting to use Tumblr as a drop spot for doodles, since they don't to terrible things with image compression, aren't run by some dude trying to speed run for Most Terrible Company Ever, and aren't adding to storage costs for a Fedi instance.

If you have any questions about our beautiful Dish or about pulsars, drop them below and I’ll try answer them as best I can during my observing run! A little 🐘 site A.M.A. on pulsars!

Whenever someone gets upset about small studio animators making a knock-off of a Disney film, I just ask them, "Well, what about the Lion King?"

And then I tell them about Kimba: The White Lion, and how the Lion King is a rip-off of an anime.

Thereafter, I ask the following question: how many Disney movies are actually based on stories in the public domain?

Why get upset at small studio animators who also make movies based on stories in the public domain?

@chadloder @chopsstephens @fracturedopal The Toot! mobile app for Mastodon is better than the Mastodon original app and allows full edit; including Alt Text edit.

The most blatant of Disney-made knock-offs is The Lion King.

Which was clearly swiped from the anime Kimba: The White Lion—which was originally broadcast by Fuji Television in 1965.

In fact, in an early version of The Lion King, Simba was white!

Mastodon has been getting quite a bit of buzz lately (an overnight success that took six years!) — and if you're curious about the early origin of its underlying protocol (ActivityPub), check out my interview on @Podnews with @samsethi:
