@GrowingFamily @ashwink @bookstodon I started with The Lathe of Heaven, her standalone novel that's like a #PhilipKDick soft SF story, and I loved it. Then I read some Earthsea books, which reminded me of Lord Dunsany, and then the more hard SF Hainish books. #LeGuin is so versatile, these different genres felt like they could have been by different authors!

All that is my roundabout way of saying to pick your path based on the genre you prefer. I don't recall ever reading a bad one by her.

The best things you can do for an #independent #author:

1 - Buy and read their #book.
2 - Review it! This is a huge help in beating the #algorithms and getting seen. At least give it a star #review.
3 - Buy more copies of their book for #gifts at #birthdays and #holidays.
4 - Tell people about it when you are discussing #reading. Mass #market #books get plenty of #publicity. #Indie #writers depend largely on #self-promotion (which many of us cringe at) and word of mouth.

I submitted a feature request to the #Mastodon project Github. It suggests future versions of Mastodon should support a boolean search for hashtags.

So you could search for #China and #proteests and get only those posts with both tags.

Or #China OR #ChinaProtests and get posts with either.

Or #China AND #ChinaProtests -#Beijing

And with this search it would show posts with both of the first two tags, but omit those that also had the third one.
