Neuromancer 2022

The collapse of a startup leaves implanted medical devices in > 700 people

The unavailability of the proprietary SW needed to recalibrate the devices and maintain its effectiveness, and the draining of batteries, will leave them without treatment and with HW implanted in their bodies

They have to hack their own implants

And it is not an isolated case but a trend

In honor of ⚖️ International Human Rights Day ⚖️ (today, on 10 December) I thought I'd write up a 🧵 with a brief overview of the human rights idea and some thoughts on the international human rights system from the perspective of an international lawyer.

Probably the most epic before/after I've been involved with: Our 200+ year old barn converted into a small theater. This pandemic project was 100% self-done. The lumber was all reclaimed or sawn from trees on our property. We pressure-washed, added windows, stairs, rebuilt the horse stall floor (now stage), and added brick paving. Lots of digging with interesting archaeology! We plan music & dance events here. Still missing: The electrical system! #restoration #barn #theater #archaeology

If you haven't heard of the Literature Clock... well, now you have, and it's a delight:

I'm working on possible oral history project focusing on the story of an Indian American immigrant community organization.

I'm hoping it'll be kind and celebratory, but not hagiographic.

Any recommendations for interesting projects I should be looking at?

A while back I saw an r/woodworking post where someone was asking for resources for woodworking plans. A few people told them to Google it.

If you Google it you get absolute horseshit. Just page after page of useless results. So we need to stop the fucking "let me google that for you" era and recognize that search is entirely broken in the modern day. We NEED human recommendations and information sharing now more than ever.

Hey everyone 👋 I'm #newhere.

I have a muscle wasting disease called Duchenne muscular dystrophy, thanks to the #NHS and modern free healthcare, I'm still alive at 37. I need non-invasive ventilation, I use a BiPAP, you can see the mask on my profile pic.

During lockdown I started taking cloud photos: https://instagram.com/electric.will

I started a blog about my life living with Duchenne.
Photography, Ai art, clouds, house music.

If there's anyone in the mastoverse with expertise in #contentWarning stuff, I would love to talk to you. I'm working on a project to try making doing content warnings in various media easier.

@TexasObserver @TucsonSentinel @restofworld Create Mastodon Instances

We've entered a new stage in the evolution of Mastodon social media. Trailblazing media organizations are creating their own instances–something impossible on other social media platforms.

Recently publications like @RollingStone, @ProPublica and @sfgate established official accounts, but now a few pioneers are taking next step.

btw: my philosophy for contemporary #polytheism is, that we as the religious people may and can create new "lore", myths and legends, find out new or never explored sides of our gods and that this is part of evolving a breathing, modern #pagan practice.
So I collected all my self-written myths here (https://emthewyrd.tumblr.com/myths). You may use them, adapt them to your own gods if you think they fit and spread them of course.

So much love to the fellow maginalized polytheist people I know or don't know. <3

So I moved my walk.
Contractor says he’s never seen anyone do it before? On rollers, with basically no powered tools and small help I shifted and leveled these 6 concrete slabs heavier than me and then using my 25 years rusty masonry skills filled in with salvaged mostly concrete pavers, a few marble curb pieces, and some brick from my house. I saved this much new concrete from being made. I saved some fossil fuel generated energy. Plus I saved some money on a gym membership ha ha jk dad bod 4 eva. Also just realized the new walk runs directly between my two most-used rain barrels! Now I will plant native edible ground cover and shrubs and some fruit trees, it’ll be awesome
