tumblr!

If anyone else has started, or re-started, a tumblr account lately, this is a fun and funny intro to the (lack of) rules from one of my favorite youtubers: youtu.be/J3uxMQkL7XE

Folks, I'm an editor at #Conservation Biology and we are actively soliciting research papers that focus on "Diversifying Conservation" We want to create a special issue highlighting research from diverse voices, research that highlights #diversity (broadly defined) in conservation, and submissions that may be centered in non-western epistemologies. Abstracts due mid Feb, with research papers at the end of March. Hit me up for more details

It's OK to refer to T-Shirts by their long names, Tyrannosaurus Shirts. Short arms, you know.

I rattled out in my wheelchair across the ice to get some wintry morning pictures earlier. Felt dreadful 🤪. Always makes me sad to see what fit and well photographers can achieve. If I don’t admit to this I’d be one of this dreadful evergreen cheerful people on social media. The frosty countryside around Tavistock this morning, you can see the moor usually but it’s wreathed in fog here #Dartmoor #Devon

Prof. Adam Frank, Univ. of Rochester: "We’re taking a science fiction idea that has been very popular recently – in TV shows like Amazon’s #TheExpanse – and offering a new path for using an asteroid to build a city in space."

The #USPTO is looking for comments on, among other issues, "whether the creation of a separate design patent practitioner bar would be beneficial to the public and the Office."

Right now, you have to have a science/tech degree to prosecute design patents for others (but examiners have art/design degrees): thefacultylounge.org/2013/10/d

If you're interested in submitting comments, they're due 1/17/23. More info here: federalregister.gov/documents/

Long thread /25

It may be that showboating billionaire dilettantes will be unwilling to continue to pour money into neural implant companies if they are required to put the lives of the people who use their products ahead of their own profits.

It may be that the only humane, sustainable way to develop neural implants is to publicly fund that research and development, with the condition that the work products be standard, open, and replicable.

Anyway can anyone recommend the best and most idiot-proof guide to moving Mastodon servers?

So I’ve let this account languish. I’m on Post (@popehat) and I’ve been avoiding Mastodon only because I need to figure out how to switch servers (this one is blocked all over). I’m logged in on my iPad but, hilariously, I can’t find where I wrote my password and the “recover password” function isn’t working or is super-slow to send an email. Anyway. I intend to build up and use a Mastodon account now that I’m leaving Twitter but it might take a bit.

My name is Vincent and I have been a ham since 2003. I started with satellite ops in QRP, but then moved to HF. I spend most of my ham-time on 20m and 40m #FT8 and doing some POTA satellite work with my arrow 2.

Despite what some people think, nature is not all about competition. Nature is about assistance. From the bacteria in your stomach helping you digest your food, to the tall trees which nuture entire forests, to the birds cleaning the teeth of large animals which could easily eat them, to all the people who volunteer their time to help those in need.

Life helps life to keep going. That applies to people too. One of the main reasons we're here is to help others be here.

When two galaxies encounter each other, it takes 1-2 billion years for them to merge and settle down. While the stars already in the galaxies don’t change much, the collision can spark lots of new stars to form! ✨ #MondayMotivation

I am typically not a #romance reader. I like romance in my books, but not not necessarily a dedicated romantic plot.
Until this book.
I was easily won over by the found family and enemies to lovers tropes I’m TRASH for!
This cozy fantastical romance is a combo of a cheesy Hallmark movie with a bit of Bewitched spiced up a bit with #diverse and #queer characters.
#SanguMandanna’s writing has my laughing and crying. The audiobook is BEAUTIFUL! Grab this with a hot cuppa!
