Question of the day:
What is your happiest childhood memory?
Domestic violence and Institutional violence
“They thought they were building me a cage. Instead they were building me a pulpit,” McCarter tweeted in November, following Bragg’s initial announcement.
The reality, as McCarter now knows firsthand, is that there are too many women sitting behind bars simply because they were trying to survive. Advocates estimate that 90 percent of women incarcerated in New York have been subjected to domestic violence.

This is very good and fun. :)

If one thing has been consistent across nearly 20 years of miniatures gaming, it's been my love of Sorcery, Rubrics, and Tzeentch.
I figured the best way I could do a proper comparison was with a photo of my first painted Rubrics (2003), versus the newer Rubric kit with a recent paint job. (2018)
My old work causes me physical pain, Masto. Don't say I never did anything for you.

There was a #SkillNotTalent tag going around a few days ago that I had a lot of fun sharing old art for! I love seeing art glow-ups; it's so satisfying (and also really puts into perspective just how long it takes to gain mastery of a new skill!)
Here's 2002 vs 2022 from yours truly :)
Teaching the age of polarization in my contemporary art history class—meaning 1988 on—in American history. Content that students had no difficulty talking about 10 years ago when I started has become nearly impossible to teach. I’m at a small private college. I have never had an issue with not being able to get students to engage. But no one wanted to talk about Do the Right Thing. No one wants to talk about Mapplethorpe. Students are uncomfortable with controversy. Has anyone else noticed this?

Happy Solstice. The lack of sunlight in the winter months is incredibly difficult for cats, as they often lose their favorite sleeping spots. Make up for it by getting them a heated bed or turning on your electric blanket during the day. #Cats #ACatWroteThisPost
"The Librarian" is a story I wrote about a woman who tries to domesticate herself after spending her teen years as a feral werewolf in the Canadian wilderness. It's my first horror story, written over a decade ago, and I'm still proud of it! Contains graphic violence and implied danger involving children (no kids are harmed).
Hello to fediverse friends new and old! For those who haven't met us yet, we'd like to introduce ourselves. For those who have been long-term fanny-fans, we're gonna reintroduce ourselves and maybe you'll learn something new.
First things first: YES there's a Vagina Museum, a bricks-and-mortar museum dedicated to vaginas, vulvas, and the gynaecological anatomy. And we're it.
@NoraReed (the @vagina_museum account is also on here, which obviously does fundraising and sells gift shop stuff and nobody really minds)

It’s important to not let the quantitative bog down the qualitative. People need John Mastodon to be at least 30-50 feral hogs and you let them have that.
When I first came to Mastodon, I had my hands full with a half-dozen things, so I kinda phoned it in. (TBH I'm still doing that to a degree, but at least now the calls are longer & more involved.) One of the things I didn't do was a proper #introduction, & for that I apologize.
My name is Kel McClanahan, & I run the non-profit public interest law firm National Security Counselors. As the name suggests, we focus on #nationalsecuritylaw matters, mostly involving #employmentlaw & #transparency.
One more cool announcement before vacation: another article that I wrote back in May just got published (or became available as an advance copy) in Digital Scholarship in the Humanities: "Likelihood Calculations for Reconstructed Lacunae and Papyrus 46's Text of Ephesians 6:19" (https://doi.org/10.1093/llc/fqac078).
Picture this: you'd like to know if a manuscript has a longer or shorter reading in a passage, but it happens to be damaged in precisely the passage that interests you. You could make an educated guess by reconstructing its text in the available space, but how sure can you be?
It turns out that if the line lengths are distributed in a way that can be reasonably modeled, then you can quantify the probability of a given reconstructed text occurring over a given number of lines pretty easily using some tricks from computer science.
