Please ignore these silly articles appearing about how "Mastodon signups are slowing down and many are leaving." I remember a big story in like Wired, or Infoworld, or something similar back in 2009 telling me that "Only 15% of Twitter users are active. Is the honeymoon over?'"

If the tech press were a bit more like @mmasnick, @jeffjarvis, and @zephoria, and a bit less like Bari Weiss, Tom Friedman, and Maggie Haberman, the Fediverse and society at large would be much better off.

Coral reefs have so much life in them, and I really wanted to paint corals for a while now. I picked Fox Corals for this illustration, a very pretty and colourful type of coral.

Today I saw yet another example of someone online stating that such-and-such means that "we have copletely [sic] abandoned NLK's [sic] values in favor of something disingenuously called "anti-racism" (It should be called reverse-racism)."

This stuff is exhausting! How about an analogy:

I have a dream in which we are all marathon winners. We are done running. We have medals and confetti and cake. It's a joyous time, and whether we finished the race in four hours or fourteen hours doesn't matter, because we have all finished it. That's my dream!

Right now, though, right now some of us are moving at a good pace, while others aren't even moving in the right direction. Some of us are incapable of moving on our own. Others are being held back. Helping those who are struggling most right now makes sense, right?

You wouldn't interrupt a marathon to object that encouraging the slowest runner isn't fair, since the dream is for everybody to have a medal and cake.

I'm proud of this letter that @team organized, calling on lawmakers to make sure they don't undermine #privacy or criminalize #opensource tools in their (understandable, important!) efforts to crack down on #crypto scams and grift .

Congress & regulators should be focused on preventing the next FTX fraud, requiring basic security and privacy, and going after bad actors, not weird side quests like banning self-hosted wallets and mislabeling ppl running nodes as "brokers"
