Initial impressions of the new Ice Cubes iOS Mastodon app are really good for me: it's the first native app I've tried that hasn't seemed to have performance issues scrolling through my main timeline due to the number of people I follow https://apps.apple.com/us/app/ice-cubes-for-mastodon/id6444915884 @icecubesapp
Please don’t confuse what is legal with what is right. There is some overlap, of course, but not as much as one might think. Laws are generally written by the rich and powerful to protect their interests, often at the expense of the poor and weak. Many atrocities are lawful, and many acts of mercy are unlawful. I say this as an attorney.
Journalists seem prepared to let Ron DeSantis use his forthcoming book to define himself for a national audience, rather than giving that audience the background needed to assess what DeSantis will say. I think this is a dereliction of journalistic duty.
Instead of a thread, here’s a link to a short blog post with a few further thoughts. https://www.notesfromcalicomanor.com/2023/01/19/press-lets-desantis-define-himself/ #USpolitics #RonDesantis #journalism
The story of how close Germany – and much of Europe – came to liberating its LGBTQ people before violently reversing that trend under new authoritarian regimes is an object lesson showing that the history of LGBTQ rights is not a record of constant progress. #LGBTQ #Equality #Bigotry #Fascism #History

We've had weird electric power issues for the past couple of weeks, but on the first visit the power company said nothing was wrong...
Had big power sags today, so filed another report.
Turns out that squirrels chew on the aluminum cladding where our supply line goes through our guava tree.
The repair guys said they see it all the time.
TIL this is a very common source of outages

So I started talking with #ChatGPT a little about #categoryTheory, and one of the first things it said is that the composition of functions on sets is (always) commutative. Which is completely wrong. I eventually gave a simple counterexample and it apologized.

@ceoln Here; this might be fun. https://youtu.be/R3OWTwGdGmo
I always wanted to go to East Cliff,
more years than I can remember,
until today I just grabbed a vine and started up.
Halfway up wind and a heavy mist closed in,
and the narrow path tugged at my shirt:
it was hard to get on. The slickery
mud under the moss on the rocks
gave way, and I couldn’t keep going.
So here I stay, under this cinnamon tree,
white clouds for my pillow,
I’ll just take a nap.

One day after quoting MLK on MLK Day, Florida MAGA Gov Ron DeSantis cancels AP African American Studies Program, saying it ‘Lacks Educational Value’
This is literally white supremacist talking points & a reminder how much these people still hate MLK today.
Indeed, DeSantis banning AP African American Studies is a reminder of that old quote -- White privilege is when your history is the curriculum and every other history is an elective.
