RT @ZoeSchiffer
Twitter is sending laid off employees a legal notice warning them about a non-disparagement clause in their separation agreements. The company says this "applies to you whether you signed the agreement or not."

Curious if any labor lawyers want to weigh in!

Oh, this seems pretty cool. Now that Elon has cracked down on the API and made tools like debirdify not work, @scafaria has created Whosum, a browser extension to help make your social graph more portable. It currently "records" your Twitter connections and then highlights those on Mastodon all in your browser (not on some server somewhere). whosum.com/

Oh it's @jiminfantino! Jim's Big Ego was and still is in many ways my favorite band and has had a huge effect on my life

If you have no other introduction to their stuff, I suspect people on my timeline will enjoy the Cowboy Bebop AMV for Jim's Big Ego's song "Stress": youtube.com/watch?v=p7EONScLrH

But there's a lot more... the album "free*" is worth listening to in its entirety for a narrative of the kinds of feelings activists go through of optimism, disillusion, and maintaining hope amidst disillusion

Glad to have Jim here!

It’s really frustrating to see the things myself and others worked on at Twitter to improve the platform from an information integrity standpoint get abused by its new owner. axios.com/2023/04/05/npr-twitt

Resetting my masto experience to what I originally imagined and intended it to be--1,2,3,..wow, 4 mos. ago when I joined. Gentle interactions with real ppl re. shared interests, music, life's little happenings. If I happen to say something funny, it will be purely by accident, not design. Boring to some, but closer to me in real life. Oh! and cat emojis & kindness, of course. ☮️ :blobcatflower:

“The destruction of $37.5 billion in value in less than six months must have set some sort of Wall Street record.”

This Verge piece about the continued blue check rental debacle is very good 👇🏾

"The basic truth of cool, as anyone can tell you, is that trying to be cool is not cool, and paying to be cool is for suckers"

"paying to be cool is for suckers" LOLLLLL....*BRILLIANT*

An artful bit of understatement from Greta Thunberg (@gretathunberg):

"Leaving capitalist consumerism and market economics as the dominant stewards of the only known civilization in the universe will most likely seem, in retrospect, to have been a terrible idea."

I’m realizing that growing up as a wired magazine-reading cyberpunk believer— a kid who thought adbusters and the internet could save the world— and then watching as every technological miracle was turned not towards revolution or saving humanity but instead more pernicious and intractable methods of exploitation has made me uncomfortable with technological optimism. “assume all new technology will be used against you” —

The history of Earth as the length of a human’s outstretched arm - representing 4.5 billion years of time.

At this scale, humans emerged so recently that we could be filed off from a microscopic slice at the very tip of a fingernail nail.

I thought AI existential risk was like we become over-reliant on AIs so complex we don't understand them, then one day they malfunction and the food supply stops. But it seems as if everyone is just arguing about how to contain an AI superintelligence that for some reason wants to destroy humanity and I really think we need less Sci-Fi movies.

I have to remember that, because #Mastodon doesn't have #algorithm curated feeds, I have to #boost / reblog interesting people more often. Liking their posts doesn't make them more visible.

Also, if you want to find new people, I use the #Welcome hashtag whenever I say hi to a new person who posted an #Introduction. I try to greet interesting people pretty frequently.

Love y'all! Keep being kind! 💜
