A journalist is writing a story about the trend I've talked about before -- defamation threats and lawsuits against women telling #metoo type stories of their experiences.

A client has me thinking about chapters.

Chapters can feel essayistic (coving a topic) or episodic (covering an event). Some writers care most about their length.

I consider their shape & how they make patterns & how the breaks influence a reader's experience.

They're kind of arbitrary like paragraphs--which is fun.

It's interesting how reading USENET newsgroups was such a big part of the early Linux history. It actually makes sense now that it is pointed out. This was the late-1980s/early-1990s equivalent of "social media", where discussions happened digitally, etc. Before the web it was also a huge source of information that was otherwise much harder to come by. Either way, a great post by Lars Wirzenius reminiscing about the pre-1.0, the very first time Linux was ever installed, and even pre-Linux days going all the way back to Linus's first multi-threading x86 assembly program. If you’re a high school teacher giving the “interview a professor“ assignment, please re-think what you’re doing.

first of all, your students are embarrassed to ask and faculty are embarrassed to decline. And when we don’t decline?

Given all the back-and-forth that it takes to set up the interview, this is taking a minimum of 1.5 hours of faculty time per student.

GOP strategy:

1) Cut taxes for the rich & corporations, claiming they'll pay for themselves

2) Explode the deficit

3) Use the debt & deficit as an excuse to demand cuts to programs that millions rely on

4) Repeat

They're trying to get away with it again. We can't let them.

@SingsongRaptor I moved over here in October.. and I found that doing an introduction post every couple months with hashtag #introduction and pinning them to your profile can be helpful. Also make sure to visit the "Federated timeline" to find some like minded types. It takes a little bit but you'll find your people.. I boosted so hopefully a smidge. I was never one for 'numbers' but I have found some great humans here :) by just doing a little reaching out myself.
