We will not fix our democracy until we start doing criminal prosecutions of the wealthy again. Not just weakly using DPAs and fines
and prosecutions of corporations.
Musk and the hospital execs in the news today must face threats of *jail*.
No fine will ever break a billionaire— they just pay out some funds and move on. But criminal charges can take down their lifestyle and hold them truly accountable.

Another trip to the used bookstore in Moran today before the season ends in September. I absolutely love this bookstore. They have some really good older books and some newer ones. But a lot of the books are harder to find. I love that the owner told me she was so glad I was saving the Mother Jones autobiography.

after reading about it in M's copy of "The Professor and the Madman", of which Murray is the titular Professor.
I may well not get past the extensive Historical Introduction, but that is fascinating in itself. The story of how the name "Scotland" and related terms came to gradually change its denotation over the years is a small gem.

Passing a law called "Stop woke" or saying "I'm anti-woke!" is equivalent to passing a law called "anti-Shabat Shalom" or "anti-Ni-Hao," but then trying to claim that you are not anti-semitic or sinophobic. It makes no sense.
Most of these VCs, writers, and politicians are irredeemably racist, and hate you on a visceral level.

It's easy to think that corporations trying to wrest control from consumers is new, but the Edison Phonograph Cylinder from more than 100 years ago shows different. This was beaten back with the "first sale doctrine" not long after. I'm thinking it's past time for another legislative push to minimize corporate exploitation.
