Ach, the interwebs tell me that "Representative Patrick McHenry of North Carolina will temporarily take over as interim speaker". That seems boring! So things just continue on as usual? Phht!

"Patrick McHenry" is a pretty amusing name, at least. "Give me McLiberty, or give me McDeath!" 😊

So there's just no Speaker of the House now? Everyone's going to just sort of mill around in confusion, play cards, head home early? I guess that keeps them from causing new trouble, but it seems like we're overpaying them for that...

You know, being a multispecies symbiotic complex that has sapience as an emergent property is weird enough. I never thought to check if any of my component species is sentient on its own. Would that be too much, if I kept a part of myself as a pet? Take myself out for a roll every morning, to spore on the mulch piles...

Nah. It's hard enough getting an appointment with a mycologist as it is; there's no way I could find one that's also a veterinarian.

REQUIRED READING

don't know Elizabeth Lopatto’s academic background but this is a master class in historical narratology:

1. spot the unreliable sources
2. find the unreliable narrator(s)

now go back and re-read from the POV that:

3. a biography is the biographer’s manifesto masquerading as the subject’s personal history

4. #3 is even more true if it is an autobiography; especially if by proxy, like this book

It's my birthday!

For my birthday wish I'd love it if you read my favorite story ever, "There's Magic In Bread".

This is for everyone who's had a hard pandemic, everyone who sees nothing but bleakness but fights for hope anyway, and anyone who just loves bread.

Lucian K. Truscott says the media totally missed the story of Trump's visit to a gun store in South Carolina, which was this:

"He made a decision to stop at Palmetto State Armory in Summerville, South Carolina, because he knew that that specific gun store was where the racist shooter in Jacksonville, Florida bought the guns he used to kill three Black people at a Dollar General store in late August."

In this Indiana diner, everyone has three questions: How's the breaded tenderloin? Is the quarry hiring? And if Nikki Haley and Vivek Ramaswamy weren’t splitting the Indian American vote, could one of them beat Donald Duck for the Republican nomination?

According to the British historian Geoffrey of Monmouth, Myrdinn Wyllt “Wild Merlin” was a #Welsh king/hero who went mad and fled to the woods, where he lived in a bird costume (or perhaps actually transformed himself into a bird). The name derives from a Welsh legendary figure who became famous as the magician #Merlin.

Brewster goes to Washington (congressional hearing on the Copyright Office Modernization Committee)

"The key thing I would suggest is the role the Library of Congress plays of preservation and access.

I mean, fundamentally, it's the Library for Congress, and they're building this collection of mandatory deposits as well as copyright registrations and everything that goes into their collections to try to preserve and create a better democracy."

In order to become a billionaire, you have to steal a thousand $ each from a million people. It really is that simple.

There is no way to “honestly earn” that kind of money.
