Horrible servers and bigots are a component of a fresh install of Mastodon. There's no default blocklist.

As such, Fediverse is a minefield of bigotry, where the mines only explode for some people. People get sold a walk through a wildflower meadow and they lose their legs. And someone like me says: "That's funny, I've never blown off *my* legs. Are you sure you can't walk?"

Bigots don't react to my presence like they do to others. I can convince myself they're not here and do no work. /2

I've been learning a bit about how racism and bigotry, which are always insidious, are insidious in some ways peculiar to the Fediverse in general and Mastodon in particular. There's a few layers.

Be sticking things onto this over the day cus work. /1

Reading and thoroughly enjoying this book by @pluralistic

Must say, I’m so glad I have the internet handy. Here are some of the things I’ve had to look up so far: BIOS; Apollo Robbins; AFK; Kasey the Kangaroo; SPACs; unsalted hash; vuln. Learning a few things, or at least filling in a couple of gaps in my knowledge. It’s a fun read, even for me.

ur mentions when u say something bad about elon musk

I am going to do a live-posting read-through of Andreessen's manifesto at some point, but I took a peek at it this morning, and I'm not impressed.

It's intellectually dishonest and cult-y from the very beginning, opening up with the "you've been lied to" narrative, and then proceeding to equate any opposition to primitivism and ludditism.

There are pro-technology, pro-progress positions that dispute his position. Technoprogressivism is a thing.

So I'd really love some input on my new personal page! I am kinda excited about it.

Here is the link, feedback welcome: https://jeffreyfreeman.me/

It mostly looks like the old version but the home page is revamped (I really like the real time git heatmap I created! ) and it is totally built from scratch. Some features I love:

It even supports the Fediverse as a full activity pub end point. It uses the following handle:

@freemo@jeffreyfreeman.me

Here are some of my favorite features:

* Fedipub / ActivityPub support, it rungs https://fedipage.com
* Clean and simple theme.
* Git heatmap (seen on the home page)
* Tags support
* Hugo static site based

Amidst a sea of bad news, here's something cheerful: Poland's far-right ruling party tried every conceivable trick to hold onto power, but with a massive turnout voters rejected the effort

The news has an "event bias," which blinds us to positive, but long-term, trends. Our world has changed profoundly in ways that most of us don't realize. Here are ten charts that can help us better understand our world: https://www.forkingpaths.co/p/how-to-understand-our-world-in-10

As Halloween approaches, it’s time for the annual public health reminder:
1. Drugs in candy is remarkably rare, and lethal items in candy even moreso.
2. What does kill kids on Halloween is cars (and the drivers of said cars).

Be careful driving, give little kids light-up or reflective stuff for their costumes, and if you’re gonna have booze, take an Uber or walk. None of us working on Halloween want to see dead Kermit or flat Elsa.

I’m in the midst of leafing a day and half long #LeadersFromLaw workshop for rising progressive lawyers and law students interested in public office. We are gathered at #TempleUniversity in #Philadelphia. The range of experience and talent these young lawyers and law students have and will bring to politics is exciting and uplifting. #LawFedi
