All the folks involved in the Apollo missions, particularly 11, must be fucking furious. They spent God knows how many hours per day working shit out to the 9th decimal place when “computer” was a job title not a device, day in day out with the stakes considered the highest they’ve ever been, and pulled off the moon landing. And in 2023 there’s a consequence-free manchild wondering “how about this?” aloud, and shooting a rocket into the sky that just fucking explodes and his response is “lol”

Funny enough, the same men feel too uncomfortable to participate in events encouraging women in CS simply because the room might be more than 70% women. Go to the conferences, talk to people, attend the parties and you will see. Didn't realize my wireless plan capped tethering speeds, but now it makes sense. When your phone gets ~10-15 mbps and your tethered computer gets .5 or .6 consistently, you know they're screwing w/ the service you paid for.

Welp, I'm ashamed it took me this long to realize, but changing the TTL on my computer seems to have released the throttling.

@FtRupertTed Exactly, and how we find some of these KOOL folks. Business like accounts, celeb accounts, fan accounts, one themed accounts, never interested me. I have RSS news readers, I don't need CBC to tweet the news I already know. But if they engage (which some reporters do) I will follow them. Otherwise, I have no interest in accounts that just fill the fediverse up with stuff. I can get that in a Google search. I want real people. Real events. real concerns. No algorithms @SusanHR @rolle

New York is incredibly safe. The majority of violence and discord is caused by the police.

When not committing crimes, their record numbers stand in groups of 3-5 by each subway entrance and arrest the exact quota of fare jumpers every day. Or walk around the mall with sub-machine guns and gas masks.

A $200-350k per officer expense each year for about $10 of calculated “theft” per day. For a subway system that isn’t “profitable” anyway. I’m losing touch with reality every time I leave my home.
